SWIMINI PURPOSE
SWIMINI PURPOSE is a stunning visual autobiography, created, written and illustrated by the artist BRENDAN McCARTHY.
It features artwork spanning 30 years of his career, from the alternative comics and punk rock fanzines of the 1970’s, through designs for the MTV pop video boom of the 1980’s, early computer animation design for the popular TV series REBOOT in the 1990’s, and recent work on Hollywood movies like the new MAD MAX: FURY ROAD.
Throughout the book are pages of original art and designs scanned directly from his sketch books and comic strips. For those who admire his savvy takes on pop culture, it’s all here: The ‘Bollywood sci-fi’ of ROGAN GOSH, MTV pop video designs for stars like Michael Jackson, punk collages, the banned graphic novel about a violent Thalidomide skinhead SKIN, and pages of paintings and drawings influenced by artists as diverse as Max Ernst, Mervyn Peake, Heinz Edelmann, Steve Ditko, Gilbert and George, 60’s Hockney and Warhol and the Aboriginal painter, Rover Thomas.
