I remember an episode of New Generation which guest starred Scotty. He advised the guy with the visor how to deal with stressful engineering requests. Scotty said you should always double the time you think it will take, tell the Captain this figure, then do it in half the time you originally expected and then everyone thinks you're a miracle worker. I have used this technique many a time and it has never failed me.

Thanks Mr Doohan, wherever you are.

I remember that same episode, and quote it often,... Sad...

This is not right. Trek actors can't die.

It's a real shame. But if I hear or read one more person making a 'beam him up' comment I'll hit them with that weird semi-circular thing that Worf had. And yes, I'm pretending that I don't know what that was called.

Beamed up for real - going to scatter his ashes in space.

This was truly hilarious. His delivery was always perfect. And the time estimate thing from TNG was great too...I'm sure many people have benefitted from that wisdom.

I'm thinking of how mad Scotty was that the Klingon insulted the Enterprise on the episode "The Trouble With Tribbles"...priceless.

Was reading an article about him, and how he was complaining to his dentist that he'd be forever known as Scotty. The Dentist said that it wasn't going to stop anytime soon and that Doohan should just enjoy it. He said he followed that advice and was happy about it ever since.

"How quaint" cracks knuckles and prepares to type.

I still do this at the library sometimes. Makes me and my friends laugh anyway.

In a 1998 interview, Doohan was asked if he ever got tired of hearing the line “Beam me up, Scotty.”

“I’m not tired of it at all,” he replied. “Good gracious, it’s been said to me for just about 31 years. It’s been said to me at 70 miles an hour across four lanes on the freeway. I hear it from just about everybody. It’s been fun.”
