Guess what? I'm even older than Sax.

We'll take our false teeth out half way through the night, then compare bunions.

Okay, let's finalise the plans for our Saga night out. Loomis and I will be in the State Bar from about 7pm. Toksik and Sax should both have my mobile number? So if you wander round and round the bar and can't spot us, just call me! Phyrephox, I'll PM you too.

Anyone else thinking of coming along?

We're not that hard to spot - I'm wee with dark hair, and Loomis is tall and slim and tattooed and generally rather gorgeous. In all likelihood, we'll both be wearing stripey trousers and black t-shirts because, well, we usually do.

I'll probably be at the bar at about eight-ish, then, if all my interviews are done up at the SECC (how far is that from the city centre, by the way?). I'll be hanging around speaking in a Lancastrian accent and saying to the bar staff: "But I don't want a pint of fooking heavy, I want a pint of fooking bitter", or somesuch.

And I shall have my pulling shirt on.

Just to confirm this is Saturday the 6th of August, right? If so I shall be there from around 7-30, I have Toksik & Ariadne's numbers and & Toksik & I have met, so there shouldn't be an identification problem , but if further clues are required my most distinguishing mark (at least in Glasgow) is my southern english accent.

If I'm running any later than 8.30pm, will you be staying on in State or will you have moved on to where the bright young things jiggle their booties?

Ariadne
14:45 / 25.07.05
I should think we'll stay there all night - and since you're the guest of honour, I promise we won't leave until you get there.

Ariadne
14:55 / 25.07.05
Oh yes, and the SECC is a wee bit out of town but their web site says there's a train, coming into Central, every 15 minutes - and that takes 10 mins. It also says a taxi will cost only £3.50 but that sounds unlikely to me... worth asking, anyway.

Sax, you shouldn't have any problems getting from the SECC to the city centre - it's about 15 to 20 mins walk but it's served by low level trains that go straight into the city centre.

Ariadne
15:02 / 25.07.05
Ah, I thought it was further away - maybe a taxi will be cheap after all.

Well, hot diggety, I have a reason to get mildly excite4d about going to Glasgow (and let me tell you that doesn't happen often). I think I may well be there, but have to check that a friend isn't going to be visiting next week first.

Oh! I'll see what I can do about making it along to this. I've yet to do a proper barbemeet with all the trimmings.

Promise me you'll all be wearing something saxy.

Sax

The more the merrier. Obviously.

I now have to interview Charlie Stross early evening but should get to the pub no later than 8.30pm, assuming I can find it.

Hope Worldcon goes well, Sax.

Gah. No chance for me, I'm afraid.

I had a wedding to attend, and I thought I might escape duties before this. No such luck, I'm afraid. Bugger. Have a good time and get drunker for me.

We definitely had a good time, and got drunk.

Great to meet Sax! And Toksik, and PhyrePhox! That was a brilliant night, though the trek home was a bit of a drag and I feel grotty now. Must have been the Bucky.

I hope you managed to get up in time for your train, Sax?

Buckie in a pub, Toksik. What were you thinking? Yes, very enjoyable, despite my now having been at work for three hours. Totally empty train home was nice, though.

Loomis
16:33 / 07.08.05
Yeah that was a great night. I always have a good night in Glasgow. Unless someone tries to take me to the Garage.

And it was good to finally meet Sax. You'd never know it from his posts on Barbelith, but he's actually really nice.

Hey folks. Made it back to the hotel room eventually - it was a rather long, zig-zag walk through Glasgow which was enhanced by being loudly abused by a very impolite young woman in boots and a mini-skirt who seemed quite upset that I didn't want to avail myself of a cheap hand-job.

Woke up surprisingly fresh, despite the shower being bust in the hotel, and made it home okay by train and car.

Nice to see you guys at last.

It was an excellent evening, I know I had fun and it sounds like everyone else did as well. As a Barbemeet newbie it was good to meet everyone and put faces to fictionsuits, as well as finding out how nice everyone is i.r.l.

Re-reading that I've just realised that it looks like I'm implying that everyone I met is nasty online, which is not what I meant at all.

How long did you and toksik stay in the pub? I apologise if my departure seemed a little abrupt... I think the buckfast-flavoured Guinness had suddenly worked its infernal magic upon my tired little brain...

till they wouldnt let us any more...
went back to the 'phox's house for a bit and then i made the merry wander home.
i was going to get a taxi, but it just didnt happen.
skintness and the feeling that there just might be a night bus kept me walking a wee bit more so often that i found myself home.
i did manage to grab a a bus for a few stops to shorten the hour long walk, and in so doing also read a couple of pages of my newest book.

a good night and one i would happily repeat.

sorta felt like the same event depsite being a day late.
oh, and he and i were making plans(well, kinda...*) to go to the pipe band championships on the 13th of august...
new thread, i reckon.
