STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

Picked up the first issue of this yesterday, having only learned of its existence on Wednesday (and, in fact, having only watched the TV series over the weekend).

It's great- as with Whedon's X-Men, I'm finding the dialogue and action would be totally at home on the big (or small) screen, while still being written to reflect the strengths of the medium. I really can't wait to see where he's going with this, but it definitely feels like part of a unified vision.

Have you tracked down the online trailer yet? I was Snoopy dancing with glee when I watched it.

Reavers! River pulling off some brutal martial arts moves! Jayne!

All good.

One of the finest sci-fi shows never allowed to get off the ground. Here's hoping Serenity jumpstarts the series again.

Oooh, oooh, didn't know about this. Thanks, Stoater.

Now, I'm going to have to go out and buy this.

Alert: just as a warning, Whedon plotted and co-wrote this. It is not 100% Whedon, more like 50% Whedon. I'm not familiar with the other writer. But the book seems to be getting mostly positive reviews across the board.

The other writer is Brett Matthews. He's the guy who wrote the 'Heart of Gold' Firefly episode.

Yeah, I picked up this issue. Amazing! What I like about it is that it will bridge the gap between the show and the upcoming movie. An earlier poster mentioned he just recently discovered Firefly, which made me kind of laugh, thinking, "Oh man, this guy is in for a real treat," being that now the movie is just a couple months away. I cannot wait. Also, if you guys are not aware of "The Signal" podcast, check it out.

ah, I'll have to pick this up since the co-writer actually wrote a Firefly ep (wasn't aware of that at first)!

Anybody get issue two?

I picked up a copy. I'm enjoying this a lot. There were a couple of lines I didn't think worked perfectly, but overall I'm liking this.

What I've enjoyed most it is the way it carries on smoothly from the series. The same issues are still at work - Inara/Mal's relationships, Book's position on the ship etc...

Picking up issue one felt like catching up with old friends.

Not only will Whedon be writing more Serenity comics, but he's going to write a Buffy comic that he's calling 'Season 8.' No word yet on whether he'll co-write these comics or write them all himself.

I've been checking amazon for the trade of this for quite a while, and it gave no indication of when it was coming out. Imagine my glee on finding it in Forbidden Planet when I was in town yesterday.

I liked it. I thought that tonally it really suited the show. Dialogue was familiarly Firefly. The art matched the show. There was a few big comicbooky moments that might have been out of place in the series, but it was tailored to the medium.

Spoil Me!

Wasn't fantastic though. It had a definite feel that it was clearing the stage for the movie in that you know there's more to the Blue Sun corp than we got here. Also would have prefered it if Dobson was just really dead. Mal shooting him in the pilot was one of those "don't fuck with me" moments that has a bit less resonance if you know it's not fatal, but meh. Mostly I think the problem was that it's just three issues.

If I have to settle for Firefly comics now, I could do a lot worse than reading more of these and putting on the voices.

Yeah. Liked it.

I felt a great amount of joy at finding this in the Forbidden Planet this morning, also.

I need to go back and read it again, but first impressions were good. (I mainly just wanted to register some sort of paralell joy).
