The Secret Voice

Hi there. I hope this is ok, it seems to be, from a few random self-hype threads by other lithers I've seen.. I've been on the board a while now and comment here and there, but I'm mostly a lurker, so I'd like to beg your indulgence and promote my upcoming book.

You may or may not have seen my comics in anthologies such as Project:Superior, Project: Telstar, Kramers Ergot #3, Hi-Horse Omnibus, the Adhouse Free Comic Book Day comic Superior Showcase #0, or even my own (Ignatz Award winning) anthology mini-comic Studygroup12. The various characters and themes from some of these stories are going to be expanded upon further and the world they share fleshed out. While having read some of these comics may enhance your enjoyment of the new series, you really don't need to have read those past stories- Each issue should be a good jumping on point for anyone who decides to try it.

----------

My book is called The Secret Voice. It's in the current issue of PREVIEWS, under AdHouse Books!

Here are the details:

4-color cover
64 pages
6.685" x 10.187" saddle stitched
$4.95 US funds
Shipping in September
Diamond code: JUL052538
Cold Cut code: SECV001

some teaser images from issue 1:

from the Smog Emperor story.

Dr. Galapagos makes a wish.

Even if you hate me, you'll like my comic, so ask your retailer to order a billion! This is going to be a regularly appearing series, packed with radicalness. Seriously though- I'm trying my darnedest to make this book the best thing I've ever done, and I'd appreciate it if you took the time to check it out. It's a mixture of adventure comics, naturalism, the fantastic, cartoony playfulness, character development, and world building. Every issue will have a variety of short stories, in addition to a chapter of the continuing "Dr. Galapagos" tale.

In the first issue:
Dr. Galapagos battles trolls and mudmen underground, Timmy West (aka The SMOG EMPEROR- seen in PROJECT SUPERIOR) goes for an interesting bike ride, and the origin of the Spectre Girls (seen in Superior Showcase FCBD book), plus drawings tidbits and more!

thanks,
Zack Soto www.studygroup12.com

Hi Zack!

I met this guy at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival last month and saw the artwork from the Secret Voice - it's seriously great stuff and definitely worth picking up when it comes out in shops, so everyone try to grab a copy when you can.

Sorry we didn't get to talk more in person Zack, hopefully I'll see you next weekend at San Diego...

thanks, everyone! I'm surprised and gratified to hear such positive impressions. If I could, I'd like to encourage people who are interested to tell their retailer that they're interested in the book, if you feel comfortable with that. Also, if you're going to SPX in September, I'll be there with this puppy fresh from the printers. In any case, thanks for all the kind words.

Cam-
It was great to meet you, sorry I was kind of sick so I didn't make it out to any of the TCAF parties afterwards. I won't be doing SDCC- this year at least, but hopefully we'll have a chance to meet up somewhere else.

I visit an array of comic shops here in LA. Two of them, the legendary Golden Apple and the mighty hip Meltdown, carry a great array of indies. Meltdown has confirmed that they have ordered the book and I'll mention it to GA.

Dunno what it is about that title-logo-cover-image, but it has really struck a chord with me!

hello, all-

Yes, it's been a while, and yes the book is a tad late (all my fault I'm sorry to say)... BUT I have it on good authority that it will be in stores not this week but the next!

Also exciting to me was the chance to be get interviewed by the one and only Tom Spurgeon at his Comics Reporter website. I think it went pretty well.

click here to read the interview. There are a few images there you might not've seen before as well.

Thanks again for your time and interest, everyone!

This will be my absolute last post to this thread unless anyone chimes in with their impressions of this issue and/or wants to discuss things, (I don't want to spam the board and talk to myself) but I just wanted to let you know that this came out yesterday (in the US at least).

here's some reviews that've already come in:
Comic Book Galaxy review
MoviePoopShoot review

Ok, that is all. Thanks for your indulgence.

I appreciate the reminder as i had totally forgotten about the book. I'm calling my LCSs in my area to see if they have this. Golden Apple in LA definitely ordered it, but that's near work, far from home. Book still looks cool...
