Erickson Commands

I remember them being mentioned in Volume 3. Interestingly enough they aren't mentioned in the anootations and not only that but the annotations look smaller than before.

So back to Erickson commands, what are they?

Well, if QuizKid/Adrian were still around here he could give you a fantastic and detailed answer.

But I don't know if he is anymore...

Basicly it refers to Erikson Hypnosis, a technique that has a lot to do with NLP and such. While I've yet to find a good "how to" book, the best example I've seen in fiction is in Douglass Rushkoff's ECSTACY CLUB.

Well, a lot of people think that they're impossible to describe in email, so I'm not sure why'd you'd even bother really paying attention to this post. After all, there are other parts of you beside the conscious part that might be *really* interested, aren't there?

Becuase how much do you really want know about it? How much do you already know, but you just haven't recognized that you know it yet? I'd say all of it. After all you're just letting you're conscious catch up to what the rest of you has been doing all along.

Because when someone describes something to you as a state, that's the moment you can also realize that hypnosis is the same as a place you've already been, a world you go into every day, and now that you can recognize it, and go there right now, then maybe it would all seem very easy.

What if someone started talking to you, and every word she said just made your mind seem to expand and grow? As if every word was a fantastic revelation. She knew just how to reach out and recognize all those things that are really important to you, all those things that go on inside your mine all the time.

As you began to remember all those wonderful feelings she pointed out to you it might be like the world was falling away, and you and her, and the space between you, and the moment you share, were the only things that existed. And just as you started to realize just how good that can make you feel she told you that you can generate new, even better feelings for yourself. That you can go new places, visit new worlds.

Knowing that, solving all those problems that you had before would simply be about you taking real advantage of the resources you already had inside your mind.

Wouldn't thinking like that make you feel more relaxed, more open, and more able to really listen to what someone had to say to you about going into a deep state of hypnosis? A state deeper then you'd ever been before? Right now, you already have a place where you can feel totally safe, but you are also totally free to do all those wonderful things that have been available to you only in your imagination.

Once you're in there, now that you're totally inside that place, you can recognize that it's never been about content, but instead it's always been about the structure.

You've spend your entire life wondering about what it is you're saying, but when you finish reading this sentance the amazing truth is that you can open your eyes, wake up, and see the world again in a whole new way.

When you do, you'll be able to recognize it was actually always how you said it that made all the difference.

Yeah, yeah, and all that...

But what are Erickson Commands?

Never heard of it before but just had a looksee on the web, sound very much like what Derren Brown does on Channel 4 - using leading and pacing in conversation to get a person to believe what you want them to do... using tones and pace to implant suggestions into their sub consious...probably way of the mark but I'm trying to help

Well, that was pretty much pure languaging I gave you above...

Erickson was a natural at it. He could drop people in and out of states, but he couldn't teach people what he was doing, or how he did it.

Bandler took his work and modeled it. Broke it down so other's could learn and use his skills, and thus NLP was born.

It's important to remember that all consciousness is a hypnotic state. All human communication moves you from one state to another.

What Erickson did was use directed languaging that goes beyond the conscious state and communicates directly with your unconscious.

And while you're thinking about all that read what I wrote above again.

What Im wondering about: Did he come up with any sets of keyword strings to induce different states?

And where can they be found?

(Btw, how strictly on-topic is this fora? Is digression frowned upon?)

Damn i thought the the Dr. was writing in this kinda style when i read it, if i'd said something then i might have sounded intelligent now i just sound like i'm lying...

and i dont think this is frowned upon with chaos because all the sites i go to talk about this (all the chaos sites i mean) - its all to do with getting what u want..

Dr. Vital,

Very nicely done, very nicely done indeed.

Lionheart,
I found a good "book" example of Erickson Hypnosis in the form of NEUROSPEAK by Robert Masters. It's really just a 11 dollar add for Master's self-help programme, but it is classic EH and has some interesting exercises. www.borders.com has an excerpt from it.

Sadly, EH is according to all sources, horribly difficult to communicate and teach via the printed word. It's much more effective in person.

And secondly, perhaps this thread might migrate to the Head Shoppe?

Bandler, Bandler, Bandler...

Start with "The Structure of Magic".

Keywords won't work unless you calibrate first. The knack is paying close attention to the words people use, understand how they use those words, then feed them back to them.

What Milton recognized was that you have to
pace before you can lead.

But I'm sure as someone who is obviousy curious about how to use these tools you'll be able to go out and discover that for yourself.
