Mordant has just called me to say that she is very nearly at Hampstead Heath (after an outrageous journey on far too many modes of transport) and that she is going to be at the big table and chair until about 8.30pm So if you were intending to meet her there, go for it and share tales of horrid journeys and the london blitz spirit ... or not!

Well the journey over was a bit pants but it was a truly gorgeous evening on the Heath, beautiful pale gold light spilling over the trees and the grasses, a single kite bobbing in the gentlest of breezes, lots of dogs running around being generally doggy YAY, and I had a lovely chat with Anna. I'm sorry more of you couldn't make it but I'll see you on Saturday, I hope, if not sooner.

Is there a plan for Saturday? I will be here some of the day but can picnic / Kahlo the rest of the time!

What we doing on Saturday before the other party thing? Because I am assuming that some of the people who are coming in from out of town may not be able to make it to the party?

Olulabelle, is your phone number still the same as the one you gave me last year?

So, Saturday 22nd then. Mordant and I got talking and we figured out the following. Let's meet at Speaker's Corner at 2pm and then find a nice spot somewhere near there and that way any late-comers can find us reasonably easily.

I can PM people my number if that's useful at all.

Okay, cool.

Small reminder for people: bring food! bring drinks! bring plastic glasses! :]

Will probably be there a little later than 2pm as I'm lazy.

Yes it is Anna. I think.

Assuming there's no more people being arrested or shot or blowing up along the way, I'm going to try to make my way to this.

I don't think I have any numbers though. Please, somebody reliable, PM me a number, because otherwise I'll just end up wandering around like a fool.

okay, I'm there now and wandering about like a fool

I have Olulabelle's number, but she's not there yet I think; if anyone has any others...

that, i have to say, was one of the best nights i've had in ages. A squatted ex-Freemason Hall, music most excellent and many, many Barbeloids who I'd not seen in ages. And MC drunk, yay! And all within walking distance of my office so i could crash here and be at my desk by half nine like a good lil' worker...

Drunk? I was fucking langered. Haven't been that far gone in a fair old while. Apologies to anyone I was drunk at; I hope I wasn't a pain in the arse.

no no MC, you were fine, just very wasted, 's all.

What i still want to know why Mixmage and Olulabelle were allowed up to the top of the Masonic Lodge when the rest of us weren't!! What goes on in the forbidden heights of Masonic Lodges involving two Barbeloids and a gang of Latvian hippie squatters? That's what i wanna know...

How do you squat a Latvian hippy?

Sorry, just leaving....

I'm so glad I'm not your head today, MC. Apparently, squatting Latvian hippies ends in messy shirts. I've heard this.
Nice to see/meet people.
What happened to Anna? Anna?

Bah. It makes sense that the day I find this thread is the day AFTER it happened and the day after I took a three our train ride out of London.

Stupid bloody lack of internet access...::grumbles::

What goes on in the forbidden heights of Masonic Lodges

I sneaked up to the roof after the sun rose, looked around saw no-one there and a lot of chimnies stretching off into the distance. The basement was much more fun in a spooky house kind of way, all empty pantries and various annotated holes ("pit to foundations" said one scrawl on the wall). It was better wandering down there without finding the light switches, in a "enter the darkened room on my own while the door swings shut behind me with a creak" sort of way.

One of the Stellas put a picture of the lovely early morning sky above Great Cumberland Place here along with a few other pics of the evening's entertainment.

Nice to see all you 'Lithers at the Lodge. We'll try to play outside N16 more often, though our next gig is in, erm, well, Stoke Newington. We're playing in Germany in September though, so if anyone fancies a long weekend of avant-hippiness near Hamburg, it's going to be a lot of fun. Stoatie, are you still coming to Schiphorst?

Sorry that I left so early! The Masonic Lodge sounds like it was fun, so I should have stayed really and proceeded to get drunk there as opposed to heading back to Southampton to do so.

Anna got home at a quarter to seven in the morning and felt very, very tired and hung over yesterday.

And I swear that those scarily high piles of rubble in the basement were all covering up corpses.

I don't recall a roof...but then I don't recall very much else either.

Also I think I might have been a bit loud.

posted by an individual on another list:

Well the 'squat fascists' present only allowed use of the ground floor and two rooms on the first floor the rest of the building was off limits, and enforced in a rather aggressive and offensive way. Though after I'd cursed and hexed offending parties I managed to get into the spirit of the party and found it most enjoyable, leaving at around 6am.

So, looks like i wasn't the only one to feel rather slighted by not being allowed into the Inner Sanctum of the Higher Realms!

We weren't on the roof, 'belle. We were loitering on the servants' stairs. Well, they would have been the servants' stairs once in the past. You and Nina both started waxing lyrical about all the fun that must have taken place on them in the past, compared to the front-of-house public stairs where probably nothing ever happened, and then we went dancing.

Okay, i retract my allegation that Mixmage and 'Belle are part of a shadowy international countercultural Illuminati who meet up at squat parties and perform mysterious rituals from on high while the unsuspecting hippie hoi polloi boogie away below. Oh and no, I don't recall you being especially loud, Belle. 'S a great photograph in that link, TM, cheers.

I much prefer the servants stairs to the front of house ones. Infinitely more exciting.

Right, in contradiction to information previously offered, I'm not back on Fri 29th but on Sat. 30th. I get into Liverpool Streeet Station at around 9pm, so could squeeze in a crafty half in a pub round there...

Obviously I defer to Stokey residents to recommend somewhere, but of the places liste here, I like The White Hart and The Rose & Crown. If it's sunny, then the former has a luvverly big beer garden, though the latter might be better for food...

Anyone know if the brunch at the Bird Cage is any good? I seem to recall the menu looking appealing...

White Hart's not bad for food, and you can usually get seats and tables and stuff on a Sunday as well.

The pubs of Stokie. Hmmm, I prefer the Daniel Defoe(food, little garden) or Ryan's(but only if the weather is good and one can be out in the garden-food is rated thai); also the Auld Shilelaugh(butchered spelling, small garden, professional guiness). It's quite exciting that you're coming to Stokie. I have to go back and relook at which night, but Friday there is a Skull Disco party at Zen Studios which is close to the White Hart and a bit private, wink wink.
Someone ring me with details if I'm not there when you are.
