Missy Elliott Presents "The Cookbook"

This album is very good. There are some less then extraordinary songs on the album, but hey, this is a Missy Elliott album. The extraordinary songs, though, are easily the best she's ever released, all culminating in "Can't Stop", the "All Alone" of this album. A song that bangs so hard, it's potentially dangerous. It's got some incredible guest turns from Mike Jones (MIKE JONES, Mike Jones, MIKE JONES), Slick Rick, M.I.A. and Mary J. Blige.

And can we just talk about the last twenty seconds of "We Run This" where she takes that old, I think maybe it's the "Comanche" sample from the Sugar Hill Gang and has a full marching band play it? All that you love about Drumline without the pesky Gabrielle Union/Nick Cannon relationship drama. You wish it could go on for another twenty minutes.

Anyway, it's out Tuesday and is situated quite nicely between the release of "Be" and, if "Gold Digger" is any indication, the new Kanye, to create a Hip Hop Hat Trick of proportions unheard of since Kwest The Madd Ladd dropped the same time as "Stakes Is High" and "Illadelph Halflife". (I know I just made that up.)

Dude. Was going to start a thread about 'Lose Control' myself, in which I asked whether anyone had heard the whole of the new album already and whether it was consistent enough to justify spending money I don't have... I definitely think 'Lose Control' is the best thing she's done since... Well, 'Work It', which wasn't that long ago. But maybe the best thing since 'Get Yr Freak On'. And it sounds like 'Disco Infiltrator'!

I've heard the M.I.A. track as well and found it somewhat underwhelming on a first listen. Might have to listen again...

Just bought it off i-tunes - just listening to it. Bought it based on Loose Control and the fact that Missy Elliott has been fairly consistant for the last four albums or so, she makes great dancing songs, great tracks that make you just want to move. So far so very good.

F.F.S - twice I've done it now, TWICE!!! I bought the damned clean version, and only realised as one of the songs did that annoying radio edit thing of cutting out swear words, I hate that. Bastards.

Fly,

Yeah, it's a tough call. The good tracks are exceptional. Let me take a look at this tracklist here.

1. Joy (Featuring Mike Jones)
Really great.
2. Party Time
Quite good.
3. Irresistable (Featuring Slick Rick)
Great.
4. Lose Control (Featuring Ciara & Fat Man Scoop)
My knees are bleeding.
5. My Struggles (Featuring Mary J. Blige & Grand Puba)
When Mary comes in, it just gets really fucking great.
6. Meltdown
Not too bad.
7. On & On
Neptunes turn in their best beat in quite a while.
8. We Run This
Very good.
9. Remember When
Ehhhhh not bad.
10. 4 My Man (Featuring Fantasia)
Not too bad.
11. Can't Stop
Best thing ever.

been listening to this a bit more, and it's a great album. Missy Elliot seems to have a knack for releasing albums with a great song that is perfect for getting you dancing released as a single, and then lots of gems on the album itself.

Really enjoying it - Lose Control is fantastic.

Oh, it's very good. I don't know what's more impressive: her Slick Rick impression or the fact that she's finally mastered the art of making ballads as good as her party tunes - '4 My Man' is a highlight for me, so far. As is the moment when the beat switches on 'Joy' as Mike Jones comes in... Ooooh!

Yes! Best part of the album, Fly.

Other highlights: the way Slick Rick says "touching my priiivates"; the production on 'Can't Stop'; the way 'My Struggles' specifically evokes mid-90s hip hop; the fact that several of the ballads - '4 My Man', 'Tearyeyed' - are as good as any other track; 'Mommy' and how its predatory boss-woman attitude crops up across the whole album...

I think this might just be her best album to date. It's a tough call, but it just might.
