Fear is the mind killer,
I will concur my fear,
I will let it past through me,
Until only I remain.

Know any more?

My personal favorite...

It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.
It is by the Beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed,
the hands acquire shaking, the shaking becomes a warning.
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.

Jesus, didn't I see that on an absolutely horrible on-line daily comic called Badtech?

Yeah, that's right, I was reading the archives. I couldn't help it -- it was like a car wreck. Horrible, but fascinating in a guilty sort of way.

Now all I can do is pray that Badtech stole that quote from somewhere. The idea that someone would actually read that comic, much less take anything from it, is... is... inconceivable. It just doesn't click with my paradigm. It just doesn't make sense!

Hmm... I think this qualifies as thread rot, but I'm not sure.

Don't read Badtech!

Gods I hate that steaming heap of online dog feces.

Hm.

God be in my head, and in my understanding;
God be in mine eyes, and in my looking;
God be in my mouth, and in my speaking;
God be in my heart, and in my thinking;
God be at mine end, and at my departing.

As if it weren't bad enough you're using a quote from a ludicrously self-important SF series as a mantra, you're misquoting it.

So, what do people consider the difference between Mantras, Affirmations, and the reciting of a code to be?

Where traditional Hindu Mantras are composed of sacred sounds (such as the sacred 'OM' which is really the dipthong AUM representing the trinity of Vishnu, Shiva, Brahma - or in some sects Agni, Varuna, Marut) most of what people in the western world consider mantras, unless they are students of yoga, tantra, etc., are more along the lines of New Age affirmations.

So, do the practitioners on this board use traditional mantras? When would you use them instead of affirmations, incantations, the reciting of a code to reinforce personal growth, etc?
