Wedding Madness!

So my friend D and his boyfriend C are going up to Massachusetts, the state with too many consonants, to get married. (Yay!) He was picking my brain about weddings and wedding-related things, and it's got me started remembering all the wedding weirdness I've been party to.

Whatever else you may think about marriage, weddings (/handfastings/unions/fishcakes) are strange insane crazy things. This seems to be largely because they involve people, strong emotions, and, not infrequently, alcohol.

I know you people have stories...

Great topic. A close mate of mine got married about three weeks ago.

She shimmied down the aisle to the tune from the pink panther.

Absolutely fantastic

Excellent choice of tune! Oh what a shame she's already married, she sounds perfect.

BTW, did anybody shout: "Do you 'av a lie-sonce for zat Minkey?" (joke)

Oh, that's fab.

I hate boring weddings. White dress, black suit, here comes the bride, there goes the bride... Blah. Why is it so hard for some people to express any personality in this ceremony?

Sadly not a wedding I attended, but I know of a bride who wore a pink number down the aisle at her big fancy wedding. Her outfit included a little pink jacket with her and her dearly beloved's names emblazoned across the back in sequins, in the traditional "Tracy hearts Craig 4eva!" format. (Names changed to protect their modesty...)

Apparently it caused a great ripple of laughter as she progressed down the aisle and row after row of guests got to see her from behind.

Makes me giggle even now.

I went to my HS sweetheart's wedding. The maid of honor told a lovely romantic story about how the bride and groom met as high school kids and used to travel to see each other and were totally in love even though they claimed to be "just friends," until the day they shared a v. romantic kiss.

While he was dating me.

Awwwww, so sweet.

So, um, tell your friends not to do something like that, I guess.

Well, from being a photographer I know that it's a very very good idea for hen and stag parties to be well in advance of the big day, try about a month or two depending on your 'friends'.

One bride was fine until she got to the church, we (the wedding photographer and me, I was an assistant then) didn't know what guessed the change but she wasn't smiling when she got to the altar, when the bride's mum picked the previews up we found out that the stags decided to bleach the groom's hair and shaved his eyebrows. The poor sod had spent all morning (a sunday wedding as well) finding a hairdresser to die his hair to it's natural colour and got his siter to help pencil in the missing eybrows. Unfortunately the bride spotted it...... still she had the whole of the honeymoon to 'discuss' it.
