(I'm not sure whether this suits the Conversation or Music forum, so I've stuck it here so it can disappear quickly if I'm tragically wrong.)
Basicallly, one of the few things that are laudable about the Warren Ellis webpresence* is its regular feature of providing mixtapes of music freely available on the interweb for its depressingly large number of readers. Unfortunately, it doesn't have any taste, and so the vast majority of the things aren't very good.
Barbelith being an infinitely more tasteful entity (flattery will get you everywhere), I was thinking that a thread where Barbeloids could post links to free web music that's actually good** might be a good and entertaining thing. Especially if they've made it themselves - one of my favourite tracks I have on my computer is "Court of the Crimson and Clover", which, tragically, doesn't have an artist name on it...
I'll start with the Probing Cranks, who are a rather joyfully deranged-sounding Sarf London combo. Songs available are: Tuxtla Uncle Ray Hammond Eggs, and Demon Worker.
I probably have no taste, but "The Legendary Liar" by the Failed Alliance (available here) has shivery bombastic vocal harmonies and crappy production, and therefore is to be appreciated in my little world.
Finally, I'll spam something I made, because it's bouncy and joycore (in my opinion) - The Mind Gangster.
So, what have you found lurking on the interweb that reminded you how good it is to listen to music without paying?
* I'm convinced that it's quite different and independent from the person whose name it coincidentally shares. Or, at least, fervently hope that's the case...
**Obviously, this is intended to be subjective. Please don't hurt me. |
