Personally, I have strong relationships w/ both Anubis and Horus - and they come from a ceremonial perspective, primarily. But don't let that put you off - because I'm not really going to suggest anything along those lines. Given that they've already both come knocking, all you need to do is open the door. Sure, a bit of background history is a grand thing. The more you know, the better material you have to work with - but there's nothing like experience. Anubis likes it when I burn frankincence, and he likes berries left upon his altar. Is there any historical indication that this should be so? None in particular that I've found - but it works for me. All of these associations I gathered through communication - simply setting up a small altar and meditating w/ the deity, and recording the impressions I gathered.
So, I suggest a small altar space and a moment whenever you can to meditate w/ the deities. Gather your own impressions, side by side with a bit of research.
As for Anubis, some general impressions of my own. He's a guide to/through the land of the dead, but the connotations of this are far more complex than I can easily wrap my head around. After all, the Egyptian relationship with the underworld is very different to the one many of us have - after all, that is where Osiris lives and rules : a substantial about face to the classic western hells.
As for Horus, it's hard to get a specific picture from history (due to the number of different ways and forms in which he was worshipped at various points. In this case, you're better off looking to your own results rather than looking to the books - I find it just gets confusing otherwise - Haprocrates, Aeroeris, Horus the Elder : who are you dealing with at the time?
Anyhow, let me know if there's any advice I can offer from my personal work. |
