Hmmm, how about "There's A Place Around The Corner (Where Your Dead Friends Live)" by Einstürzende Neubauten?

As for the "Final Countdown" - for me it'd have to be the Laibach version, and their "B-Maschina" would be a pretty epic way to be piped out. Because if you're going to go big, you don't want to go too quietly.

Young Prayer by Panda Bear (of Animal Collective) in its entirety would exorcise a fair bit of grief and let people get on with getting pissed for my soul (I'm expecting a good wake with my more morbid friends making speeches while perched on my coffin). The 3rd track sea shanty might help things along a bit.

Failing that 'My Home is the sea' by Superwolf, purely for the line:

'I have often said/I would like to be dead/ In a shark's mouth'

That sure is a way to go...

I want people to think of me as somewhat of an Uncle Tom, that courageous explorer of unknown (intellectual) territory

matt, why do you... Oh hang on.

Right, sorry - I guess I misread that.

I want a N'wallins-style Jazz funeral and I want the band to play the Rolling Stones' "You Got to Move" (it's from Sticky Fingers and it rules mightily)

What If God Was One Of Us- even though it's a crappy song, that's how I want people to remember me.

I remember having this conversation when I was 14- a friend of mine died in a car crash and had 'Catch' by The Cure played at his funeral service- even now 17 years later the song sends shudders down my spine and brings a tear to my eye...

...anyway as a result we discussed amongst friends what song we would have played at our funerals- I chose Freedom by Alice Cooper mid 80's hair metal anthem- being the sensative adolescent brat that i was i went home and played it very loudly. When my mother asked me to turn it down - i shouted at her that she was 'ruining the song i was going to have played at my funeral'- and then made her listen to it repeatedly so she got it right when the time came.

oh dear...

i don't think its still my choice- but i don't know if my mums been told yet!

so if i croak before i remember to tell my mum- here's some suggestions

The Auteurs 'Junk shop Clothes' - As everyone files out of the church it'll feel like a Wes Anderson movie, trust me.

Julian Cope 'Out of My Mind on Dope & Speed' - just to make people smile at the funeral.

David Bowie 'Golden Years' - kind of sad but with a groove to move out of the church to...

Bob Dylan 'Buckets of rain' - Not a dry eye in the house with that one.

The Fall- Wrong Place Right Time - Perfect for a premature departure...

Belle & sebastian- Me & The Major- just cos its ace.

Gershwin's Rhapsody in blue - could add a Woody Allen flavour to proceedings..

anyway there are some ideas just don't let mum play bloody Alice Cooper....
