Doing this in film, and doing it the bad into good way round. Which films did you once think were bad, but upon a later viewing changed your mind about. I'll give two to get the ball rolling, oh and although I don't hate a list as much as Boboss, try to write something a little more filling than a title.
Firstly LA Confidential - I wrote a review for this film when it came out cinematically, and called it flat, badly directed and overly moralistic in it's finale. I did have a real bone of contention with the opening half, the direction did seem unispired (cinematographically I thought it was very flat) and the only character that didn't seem charactured, only seemed like this for the one moment in the film that I won't mention as it's a spoiler, but anyone who's seen it should know the moment. Since then, I've read the book, and bought the DVD, and now, despite the annoying ending, think it's great. Maybe because I re-watching it in LA and was in an LA mood, but it's still a great film.
Secondly;
Usual Suspects - when I saw it at the cinema first, I thought it was laughably bad, the ending was so obvious and the characters grated and failed to pull me in. Then I watched it again, alone, much later, and fell in love with the actors in their roles, Benicio Del Toro is fantastic, the script is brilliant and I just enjoyed it a whole lot more (not sure why but there you go).
over to you. |
