elijah, can't you turn the mod chip 'off' or temporarily disconnect it? I haven't modded my own XBox (played hell getting a free one, and didn't want to risk someone screwing it up), but I understand from people that have that you can turn off most of those mod chips so that Live won't pick up on their existence.

As far as games, I'm primarily on Halo 2, normally on Saturday evening-Sunday morning. I also occasionally make a go at the time runs in PoP 2... right now, that's all I've got. I will be picking up Burnout 3 soon, though.

Is PGR an arcade racer or one of those 'simulators' (i.e., Gran Turismo/Forza Motorsport)?

PGR is more arcade than simulator, but it's nowhere near as Arcadey as Burnout, Outrun, or Daytona; the handling model is relatively conservative, but you don't get that punished in it. It's very fun.

PalefaceX is me, but I'm currently waiting on broadband at the new place. Halo2, DOA:U, Forza, PGR2, Street Fighter 3, are probably best described as "my bag".

Peter Outerbridge - Live doesn't just pick up on mod chips, it can also pick up on modified hard disks. Even if you turn the chip off, it can detect that you've replaced or buggered around with the HD. If you solely use a mod chip for imports, it'd be OK, but media-center-boxen probably won't survive on Live.

Who's playing what on Xbox live these days? I just got my 360 a couple weeks ago, along with Gears of War, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, Dead Rising and Oblivion.

So, is anyone playing Gears or GRAW? I still kind of suck at both of them, since Oblivion takes up most of my 360 time, but I'd love to play a little online despite not fully grasping either game as of yet. Is there something else totally awesome you're all playing on Live that I need to know about and purchase? My Gamertag is Nick Whitman, although I'm never actually online.

Clans are game-specific. If a game supports them, you can join or start one from one of the in-game menus. If it doesn't, you can't.

Weirdly, I don't recall having seen an clan-type stuff on the 360 at all, but I suppose that Halo 3 must include it, for one, as the previous game in the series did.

My tag is still the same as it was upthread.

I just started playing cod4 multiplayer on the 360 a few days ago after about 9 months break. The online matches are choc full of clans now, gamertags have a [clan name] bit before them at the start of the match.

I've also heard that the new party chat allows private chat between groups of people even if they are on different teams which if true could be a loophole for all sorts of mole planting tactics.

I've not played CoD WaW but a few of my hardcore gamer friends have abandoned the multiplayer to head back for cod4.

I've tried HD Turbo remix and yes, the XBOX controller is awful. I'm tempted to have a look at SF 4 and the various controllers that are coming out
