I was walking home from work this morning, and in my yard I saw a real life woodpecker!! It wasn't pecking wood, it was doing something in the grass, kinda hopping around. I have never ever seen a woodpecker before and I thought it was cool. It kind of looked like this.

There's a woodpecker where I work. I've never seen it, but it sounds just like this guy:

I've never seen a woodpecker, and from the amount of noise they make you'd think they'd be fairly easy to spot.

I've seen quite a few woodpeckers around my way recently (Tottenham, N. London) as well as a family of blue tits who regularly come to feed in our back garden. Very cool.

Never seen a tiger in the wild, but I have been chased by a wild lioness...

If you get two stones (one in each hand) and knock them on the side of a tree repeatedly, quickly and in short burts, any nearby resident woodpecker will come and see what you are. They fly over to have a look at you thereby allowing you to also look at them, then they go back to their own tree and start being noisy themselves.

I've seen rattlesnakes before, and, um....turkeys. Wild ones, of course.

also, I think someone's pet bird got out - lately I've been seeing a little bird, about the size of a finch or a canary, but with red feathers.

As I practically live in the wilderness, I've come across all sorts of birds, including woodpeckers and wild turkeys and all that. I've also had bears sleeping in the yard or jumping on the deck for a few sunflower seeds, deer running rampant, possums and skunks scuttling about, even foxes and bobcats have stopped by.

No water buffalo, though. How unfortunate.

sounds cliche'd, but we have kangaroos in our street. canberra is like that - but the cool thing is i saw an echidna again, live and wild, the other week, in the bush just two steets from my home... (and saw one crossing the road on the coast road about three days later. sheesh, echidna city!)

they are so cute. though not as cute as a baby rhino i saw on telly in perth zoo... want one of those!!

I did see two elephants pass by my workplace last week, (circus in town!) and I gathered that there were also giraffes and llamas on the mainstreet from people complaining (mostly about the llama) weaving in and out of traffic. I'd never seen a elephant in real life before, made my week to be honest.
