Any of you blighters seen Robert Fuest's version of "Final Programme"? The phrase Curate's egg comes to mind..

The film's all over the place, the sets are mad (but then, what did you expect from Mr. Phibes, hmm?), and the narrative's as loose as a priest's morals, but it has a certain charm..

Yup, we talked it up a while back in this thread.

I've only seen the chopped-down version released as "The Last Days of Man On Earth," and I really quite loved it. It is a rambling mess, as noted, but I do find it eerily engaging (the first time I rented it, I watched it six times over a five-day rental). Jon Finch was just thoroughly in the role, in an offhand, casual sort of way, that it felt almost like watching a reel of Jerry's home movies (the "special effects" and choppy editing would seem to bear this out).

I also hadn't read the Quartet yet, so I wasn't watching through the Adaptation filter.

I have a real soft spot for this film. Very Dr Who in places, very Cornelius in others. The Quartet is all over the place and an unnarrative mess, so the film suits that skin.

Also a nice cameo from the crazy nazi from Raiders of the Lost Ark as a pinball enthusiast.
