I've only seen the chopped-down version released as "The Last Days of Man On Earth," and I really quite loved it. It is a rambling mess, as noted, but I do find it eerily engaging (the first time I rented it, I watched it six times over a five-day rental). Jon Finch was just thoroughly in the role, in an offhand, casual sort of way, that it felt almost like watching a reel of Jerry's home movies (the "special effects" and choppy editing would seem to bear this out).
I also hadn't read the Quartet yet, so I wasn't watching through the Adaptation filter. |
