Okay, I am definitely going to Stokiefest on Sunday, now. Just got the following in an email:
"NIGEL BURCH AND THE FLEA-PIT ORCHESTRA
(onstage 4pm approx)
@HANGDOG LIVE MUSIC STAGE
STOKE FEST 'O5
CLISSOLD PARK
STOKE NEWINGTON N16
SUNDAY 12th JUNE 12-7pm
FREE!!!!!
First up, Marseille Figs - An accordian and sax driven trio from paris, berlin and london playing punky folk, followed by Spin Master Plant Pot - the small man with no heart who does accopella, love him or hate him he's on for 5 min's, then - The Rebel, who is Ben From the Country Teasers. He's joined by his yep, wife Sophie (I think thats her name). After a lot of thought I've decided I like bens stuff as the Rebel more than the teasers stuff - It's cruder! Then another 5 min's of Plant Pot - then the fantastic 'phets damnation blues of Gin Palace (remember them - the one you like to watch with your grandmother) - them all the way from Sweden, like they would be from anywhere else, The Make Outs, then it's The Buckets - featuring Eric from the Ulcers, The Professor from The Dirty Water Club and Bruce Brand - who is in too many bands to list here, but include Holly Golightly and ex-Thee Headcoats. Nigel Burch and the Fleapit Orchestra do the next bit - and who if you don't know about already ... voodoo rhythm records muscle their way in to the second from last position with Hip-bone Slim and the Kneetremblers and, almost obviously, the day finishes with stoke newingtons finest surfers The Bikini Beach Band. ..."
I've known Spinmaster Plant Pot for ten years -- he's "an a capella punk rock poet", but I've never been to one of his gigs yet.... And there are quite a few other bands I want to see, as well. Hope it doesn't rain!
(And I'm coming on Friday, too) |
