Demon Suggestions?

For a writing project i'm working on, i need some ideas aboutsome demons or sinister demigods.

I need a demon who feeds off the death of the young... the kind of demon who would REALLY get behind a Columbine sort of thing.

Also, I'm wonmdering if there is a demon of particular relevance to someone who wanted to slay the unreal, or slay avatars... say, a demon that would be of particular use if you needed to wipe out a slew of opponents in a videogame.

all mythos, realms, cultures accepted. though im primarily interested in traditional / mythological creatures, not modern-day updates or chaos-magic innocations.

quote: Molech
Pronounced As: molek or Moloch molok , Canaanite god of fire to whom children were offered in sacrifice; he is also known as an Assyrian god. He is attested as early as the 3d millennium B.C., although most known references to him come from the later period represented by the Hebrew Bible, according to which Solomon and later Ahaz introduced the worship of him into Judah. He had a sanctuary at Tophet, in the valley of Hinnom S of Jerusalem. Milcom may be identifiable with Molech.

Hope this helps. Molech has been identified by some Christians as still active and taking sacrifice in the form of abortions. While the reality of this is thoroughly, thoroughly, thoroughly debatable, I though it might lend your work an interesting subtext.

cool -- thank you.

Doesnt he also make a kind of appearance in Fritz Langs' Metropolis? And in Alan Ginsberg's Howl?

I'm afraid I'm a culture spaz that likes to make out as if he's well versed in film and literature, but actually isn't. So I can't really comment on either Metropolis or Howl (although I think I at least read Howl once).

I used him in one of my poems (probably too screwed up to make into a workable song). Freaky little crap deity that he is.

Yeah Moloch does make an apperance in Metropolis when Freder first makes his way into the city below and the machine overheats and kills all those men. Freder has a hallucination where the machine becomes Moloch.

How about Ho'ok ? carried off small children and babies and ate them
Or how about the Al of Armenia ...that strangles children in the womb.

Lilith has been "guilty" of quite a number of things. Here's a pretty good list of source material.

I tend to see her as more wronged than the wrong-doer, but that's just me.

Ho'ok is a demoness from the Sonoran desert, of the Tohono O'odham people. Human in appearance with animal claws for hands and feet. She lived in a cave in the Baboquivari Mountain.

Gawd! Lilith is so passé! Like so, 1997, ya’ know?

You want a real demon, try summoning N’SyncStreetSpears.

“BOW BEFORE MY UNHOLY HARMONIES!”

Imagine that on TRL:

Carson Daly: So, you say you have big plans for your fans.
Demon: YES, Carson, I plan to suckle off their vibrant teenybopper lifeforce, turning them into unthinking, unliving LEGIONS OF THE DAMNED!
CD: Wow, big plans. So what is your favorite ice cream flavor?

Remember kiddies, don’t call up what you can’t put down!

Huh. Your puny daemon pales before the hideous strength that is StockAitkinWaterman, Turner of Kiddy Brains Into A Substance Not Unlike Goosberry Puree.

so many demons...

now, does a fairly obscure creature like Crom fit in easily with the symbolic hyperpantheon of the tarot or the sephiroth? are there analogues between him and similar forces/symbols from other mythos? do all the child-killers from mythos have a syncretic trans-mythos relationship?

Probably not relevant, but I thought I'd throw it out for the murder-suicide angle: Ixtab, Mayan goddess of suicides (as well as warriors killed in battle, sacrificial victims, women who died in childbirth, and members of the priesthood).

A cursory search on gods, illusions, and slaying of, gave me this passage:
quote:...[I]n the epic version of the slaying of Vritra by Indra, Vritra has obtained power to create illusions, endless energy, unconquerable might and power over the gods because Brahma cannot deny it to him after his practice of austerities [i.e., power from yoga rather than from sacrifices]. Shiva alone of the gods has sufficient strength gained by yoga to pit against that obtained by Vritra. It is Shiva who, by backing Indra and lending him his strength, enables him to overcome Vritra.

I think the Rev Jessie is funny as hell.

Carson kinda dabbles in the the shameless merchandising of carefully-marketed music to kids as the answers to their identity/relationship/social problems. Not very deadly though.

I'll pass you a business card from the f_nkin' goddess of death, myself, the cannibal queen of extinction, the black earth mother who devours her own young, wife of the destroyer, and purveyor of lust and death, Kali (not the meber in good standing).

Hey I happen to like the Spice Sirens, though I could do without the N'SYNCSTREETSPEARS demon thingy, cuz that one is just annoying and confusing as hell. But what about that demon who has risen from Hispanic America to suck the Loveforce out of forward thinking women everywhere, Juliomartinlopezaguiliera, and why is it that the South American continent has dieties with such overly long names like.. oh forget it, I need my trusty Demons on Demand book.
