Where to post about videogames?

A few quick searches on the terms "videogames" and "video games" return threads on the subject in almost every forum. Would any long-time members care to clarify the forum in which it's most appropriate to discuss videogames and all the technological/social issues related thereto?

There's the Videogames thread in the Conversation - now on its third or fourth volume - for one thing.

The lack of a Games forum is a hardy Barbelith perennial. You can catch up with the whys and wherefores here, and perhaps bump it with your own thoughts if you want to renew the debate.
When it comes to related issues, I think the general feeling is that - as you found in your search - the existing forums are the appropriate places (Laboratory for technical issues, probably; the Head Shop or perhaps Switchboard for social issues; design matters in Art, Fashion & Design; and so on).

Some of the issues are going to bleed across topics - just because something concerns society doesn't mean it *has* to go in the Headshop, if there's a technological base for that discussion - but I advise not worrying too much about exact placement, things can always be moved later.

Starting things in a particular forum is also a statement of intent about how you see the discussion going. In the Headshop you will get more people talking theory and looking at different social movements. In the Lab you will get more people comparing and contrasting technologies and their effects. There'll be a mix of all of these wherever, but there will likely be a difference in emphasis.

This discussion seems to have moved back over to the second thread that Smoothly linked to. As such, it's probably a good idea to lock this one so that we don't get it spread out between the two.
