Reidcourchie: "Lepidopteran could you ask your son to review Isis' Panopticon, in fact could we have a thread where Lepidopteran's son reviews music. It'll cut down on bickering in the music forum and I am prepared to make all future choices as to what music I buy based of Lepidopteran's son's reccomendations."

Okay.

Let's broaden the topic a little, though, yes? Those of you with kids, or who know kids, or who were kids at one time, what music gets those itty bitty feet tapping?

The youngest member of the Lepidopteran clan is particularly partial to:

The songs "Monsters" and "Marilyn" by Cruxshadows - his grandmother plays them for him every time he visits, and he dances like a nut with his tambourine, harmonica, maracas, little green St. Patricks Day parade squeaky horn, and a coat hanger (for some reason). He doesn't really like the other songs on the album, and hits back to hear his favorites again.

Millenium Funk Party is a real winner, especially the cuts "Brick House," "Jungle Boogie," and "Atomic Dog" (by The Commodores, Kool & the Gang, and George Clinton, respectively).

The Kronos Quartet feat. John Zorn, et al, "Forbidden Fruit," has, evidently, some serious baby appeal. We were listening to it in the car, so there wasn't much opportunity to dance, but Baby L kept up a steady and lively dialogue with the music, through several replays. It's squeaky. He likes squeaky.

Bob Marley goes down well, in general, with stand-out props for "Buffalo Soldier." Siouxsie and the Banshees also scored a hit with their album "Tinderbox."

These in addition to the previously noted "With Teeth" (which his younger cousin also rather liked), and the usual assortment of Wiggles songs ("Do the Owl" a current favorite, and not so filthy as it sounds).

How 'bout your kids?

[Meanwhile, Lepidopteran Jr. has announced that he will be happy to review the Isis album, and indeed Wolf Eyes, as soon as someone provides him with a complimentary review copy. Thank you.]

[BTW, did I dream this, or does anyone else remember a Sesame Street appearance by The Red Hot Chili Peppers a while back?]

Mine is utterly grooved out on a few things at the moment...

Radiohead 'Creep' and 'High and Dry' he loves, along with the Limp Bizkit cover of 'Behind Blue Eyes', particularly the Speak'n'Spell middle 8 bit. Head banger.

He positively loathes 4-to-the-flour dance music, although he's never had E's (being 3 and all), and so do many people who fit that description. He describes Eric Prydz and that Cabin Crew track as 'Wubbish', which is hard to fault as a critique. He quite likes dub and reggae, and fancies Beyonce and Jojo.

He's quite into Nas generally on CD, likes Eminem on the telly, absolutely loves Green Day (by far his favourite band that he sees on telly, air guitar and everything), and has an unfortunate penchant for Busted, who he calls 'ThunderBIRDS' (note the stress).

Oh and that Kylie Minogue tune 'Chocolate'. And Elton John 'Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me'. Both winners.

Eclectic eh?

Yeh, almost all the giveaway CD's on the front covers of Sunday papers end up in mine's possession, so he's a bit of a nostalgia freak generally, having fallen in love with Earth, Wind & Fire probably before anything else, ever...James Brown cracks him up, particularly the intro spoken skits, especially on Sex Machine...

Money $hot, have you tried your little one on Big Band Swing? The oft-played "Sing Sing Sing" goes down a treat at the nursery (it also makes any amount of chaos and mayhem side-splittingly funny, when played at sufficient volume).

My parents used to make me listen to prog rock. I'll never forgive them.

My young lady (now 2.5) favors, lemme think --

that "New York Girls" track off Anna's mix CD (by The Mooney Suzuki),

Dolly Parton (especially the bluegrassy stuff)

the occasional Augustus Pablo

the more sing-alongy songs by The Moldy Peaches (including "Who's Got the Crack"). Although she might be over them by now.

a couple Sesame Street counting songs (especially the one about the one... two... two little plates, one... two... two little spoons... which has the cats invading the dollhouse. On a spree, as the song tells us.

this mariachi CD my mom got her. It's a little bizarre, but it gets her butt movin'.

this is an awesome idea for a thread
and it gives me an idea... i think when i finally get my zine up and running this summer, i'm going to include a regular section in which albums are reviewed by kids. i wanted to have music reviews in there, but the standard fare is just too boring and overdone. this should add a nice spin to it. thanks for the inspiration!
