Vitalic - OK Cowboy

So I guess this is what other people heard when they listened to Daft Punk's Discovery, right?

It's like listening directly to technology from the future - some of it is cold, but mostly it's just staggering in how well it works. A lot of it seems to have a sense of ruthless, streamlined efficiency to it... Would it be too much of a cliche to call it teutonic? Or would it just be inaccurate, because that suggests something at odds with the kind of total crazed abandon that several of the tracks on OK Cowboy suggest/induce?

'My Friend Dario' is obviously huge, a mix of the best aspects of electroclash (disdainful East European female vocals) and the Chemical Brothers (piling in huge swathes of guitar that somehow don't feel out of place in a dance track AT ALL). I've read people describe listening to it as being like being drunk, or getting drunk very quickly, and that's not inaccurate. Whereas huge building waves of synth attack like 'Poney 01' and 'La Rock 01' suggest a different form of intoxication. 'The Past' and 'U&I' are hopelessly sad and wistful in the way that certain Felix Da Housecat is, except more contemplative. And I don't even know where to start when it comes to the triptych of 'No Fun', 'Repair Machines' and 'Newman'...

Definitely going to be one of my albums of the year. Anyone else?

I wasn't taken enough with OK Cowboy on the first couple of listens to ever really get that into it. I don't think any of the newer stuff came even close to being as exciting and immediate and brilliant as the tracks from the Poney EP (although in fairness, very few releases in that stompy druggy analog electrohouse vein from the last few years can touch that 12") or even the Vital Ferox release. Not a bad album, and definitely worth owning if you can't get your hands on a copy of Poney, but I don't think it'll make any album of the year shortlist I might have. I suppose it might have been a case of expectations being too high, since his recent remixes and the Fanfares EP have also failed to live up to that early promise in my estimation.

Damn you flyboy. I really didn't need to buy another awesome album right now. Can you slow down on the recommendations please, I don't have enough time to listen to it all. I've only managed to give it one listen to for now, so I'll return a bit later to give some more considered opinions but it seems top so far and a snip at £6.99 from bleep.

For the first time in years I have to say Flyboy is bang on the money! This is some nifty stuff and they're playing over in September! I feel some dacing coming on.

There hasn't been a new release since.
It's a crime.

I'm sure 'Lither Kitchen Music was showing me some new stuff. Hmm. "The Past" is probably my favourite use of a vocoder for a long time.

You have new stuff? Can you pm me where you found it?

I'll get on and see about new stuff, it might have been mythical.

I find it ... organic, almost.

Ooo, there is a ver', ver' good Vitalic remix of Daft Punk's Technologic doing the rounds, it was on the Fabric 33 (I think) DJ set that Spank Rock did.

There were also a super glitchy and a downbeat version of Let's Make Love, which were duly added to my archives. I now have a dozen or more versions/remixes of that one song, more even than I have of Blue Monday. There's the RAC one with the massive percussion, and there's the Rappinghood one which puts the lyrics of LML over the backing track of Wordy Rappinghood.
