what about BUDDHA, who chose the middle way - and i'm not even a buddhist... the responses so far are pretty eurocentric. philosophy should speak of the answers and questions fundamental to living and the doctrine of the buddha yeilds probably the greatest sense for all people. that said, SPINOZA and his ethics, that all is what it is, is pretty fundamental and sensible, too!
for pure reading value, NIETZSCHE gets the guernsey though this question is as obtuse as any that any philosophers have asked! |
