The evidence seized via your computer

I've been reading a lot about crime lately (FYI: all embarrassing garbage, nothing of particular note) and I always feel tremendously amused and/or frustrated and/or repulsed when they mention the "evidence" they've found hidden deeply within that person's computer.

so my question to you is this: you're suspected of a crime, any serious crime at all, and you're innocent. if someone was really determined to dig up something with which to more convincingly place blame on you, what do you suppose they might find on your computer to serve this purpose?

(pretend that you are the sole user of your machine)

the aforementioned crime event reading, especially those involving cults. I also have this thing with photos of old (100+ years) banks and prison facilities...I have a need to see the details.

You mean being a Barbelither and consorting with all of you liberal nutjob cultist furriners isn't enough?

Most courts in the U.S. would probably nail me to a wall for that alone.

That and the bones. But we won't talk about that, precious.

It isn't but it damn well ought to be.

Nothing. It's set to self-destruct if tampered with.
Seriously though, while there is no actual evidence I'm sure the Special Branch or whoever would be able to make a circumstantial case of most 'Lithers bookmarks: "Look, they were interested in radical politics/dabbled in the occult/were part of the drugs culture, they are obviously a menace to society".

I doubt my stolen music or internet history would interest them much, but maybe one or two of my vast collection of ebooks would. I used to download big bundles of books from file sharing programs; mostly Sci-Fi stuff, but I know Mein Kampf, the Jolly Roger/Anarchist Cookbook, some De Sade and various others could be considered evidence of my criminal mind.

On my hard drive are a collection of my (mostly unfinished) short stories, some of which could suggest a rather violent state of mind, but nothing actually incriminating.

My internet history could get me into a bit of trouble. I tend to get gripped by something and want to know how it works. The two that stick in my head from the last month are 'how do you build an atomic bomb' and 'how do you refine poppies into morphine, and then on to heroin'. I do regularly clear my internet history, wipe cookies, and the like, so they would really have to dig.

I'm slightly embarrassed that there isn't more.
