Presumably this is an imminent movie project...
Which, as a fan of the book, I can't really see the point of at all - by his own admission, Will Self doesn't particularly 'do' plot or characterisation, his novels instead being by and large these sort of grotesque, internalised, psychotic fairy tales, which I can't really see working in a cinematic context unless you had an Uncle Will figure narrating events from an armchair somewhere, in a rubbish dump, a library, or a one bedroom flat, ideally Self himself.
It would be a bit like Jam meets Tales Of The Unexpected, basically, and would work a lot better on British TV.
At least that's how I'd go about it anyway.
A US movie starring Chris O'Donnell, on the other hand, is pretty much bound to be so far away from the source material that whoever's writing it may as well be starting from scratch. And I'd be willing to bet that it never gets made. |
