Cock and Bull

Anyone else heard the disturbing news that Will Self's rather nasty double novella "Cock and bull".

basically it's two narratives, linked only thematically, about a man growing a vagina-in the back of the knee and a woman who grows a penis and rapes her husband.

The first worry is that they're only doing one half, and the other is that it's set to star that darling of the indie world, Chris O'Donnell.

Presumably this is an imminent movie project...

Which, as a fan of the book, I can't really see the point of at all - by his own admission, Will Self doesn't particularly 'do' plot or characterisation, his novels instead being by and large these sort of grotesque, internalised, psychotic fairy tales, which I can't really see working in a cinematic context unless you had an Uncle Will figure narrating events from an armchair somewhere, in a rubbish dump, a library, or a one bedroom flat, ideally Self himself.

It would be a bit like Jam meets Tales Of The Unexpected, basically, and would work a lot better on British TV.

At least that's how I'd go about it anyway.

A US movie starring Chris O'Donnell, on the other hand, is pretty much bound to be so far away from the source material that whoever's writing it may as well be starting from scratch. And I'd be willing to bet that it never gets made.

Are you absolutely sure you haven't got this mixed up with Batman and Robin?

No. And we still haven't. Care to finish that sentence?

Oh...oh my word!..
Damn gremlins have done it again!

It's being made into a movie, oh smug one. Sorry, have a tendency to get distracted and generally misspell things.
It is called dyslexia, lots of people have it.

It's not smugness, it's called superiority disorder, lots of people have it.

Will there be latex nipples?

That's called fetishism. It's perfectly in order and lots of people have it.

That was more a gentle ribbing than a snark. If it helps, picture a sticky-out-tongue smiley at the end of all my posts from now on.

(Incidentally, a tendency to lose focus and make spelling mistakes is not called dyslexia. Dyslexia is a specific developmental disorder, which may involve problems with written language. If you are dyslexic, then no doubt everyone will take account of that - the issue has arisen before. If you're not, less of the guilt trip.)

Incidentally, a tendency to lose focus and make spelling mistakes is not called dyslexia.

What can I say, I was having a bad day...

but guilt-tripping is such fun,no?

Back to the movie, the director's previous movies include the 'hilarious' stoner spoof "mementoke".
Mr Self would no doubt be proud...
