The Wylde Ratttz (Thurston Moore, Steve Shelley, Mike Watt, Ron Asheton, Mark Arm) recorded an album's worth (some sources claim enough material for 3 albums was recorded) of Stooges covers plus some originals, all for the Velvet Goldmine soundtrack, in 1998. Controversy arose when only TV Eye was used on the soundtrack, but the compilers placed Ewan MacGregor's vocals overtop Mark Arm's. Also, one of their original tracks that was composed by Asheton was played in the film -- the bit where MacGregor's character tries to do a track in the studio, but can't get it together.
It was reported constantly that a full album of the Wylde Ratttz material would be released -- specifically, in September 1999, but of course, that never happened. Watt claimed in Sept 2003 that the record would finally be released, but still no sign. The group had a website -- www.wylderatttz.com -- but it's closed down. The most recent development is that in late 2003 the original version of their TV Eye cover (with Arm's vocals) was released on the School of Rock soundtrack.
So here's the question. Are there any bootlegs out there?? |
