Celtic Magick Reading.

Can anyone recommend some good books, or PDFs on Celtic Magickal systems and religions? I've been browsing around the net and everything seems to be hit or miss. Some books are just outright rediculous according to reviews I've seen on them.

You might want to try Jan Fries Cauldron of the Gods. Details here.

Lotta crap out there on this. For the most part, I'd advise that you avoid anything published by Llewellyn. (There are a very few exceptions to that rule.)

There is good material available, but it really depends on what you want. Are you looking for Celtic Wiccan material? Something scholarly? Anthropology? Faerie lore? Collections of Celtic myth? Or just a basic spellbook with Celtic knotwork on the cover?

Thanks for the input. I'm actually looking for a little of each. Though Wicca isn't my thing I don't mind reading a bit about it. I'm basically trying to research different magickal systems and compile various practices for you own use. My religion is Finnish, I'm Mielikkian, but info on that seems very scarce since I don't speak finnish. About all I've found on that is the Kalevala. I've always had an interest in Celtic practices as well so I thought I'd start there. Something to act as an introduction to different systems would be excellent.

Elements do a good series of basic over-books on Druidism, Celtic magic, Wicca etc called "Elements of..." I can't give details at the moments and don't have access to my book shelf.

I'd suggest reading one of the translations of the Mabinogion.

If you're after getting right into the history and myth, The Book of Invasions should help you a lot.

Here's a link.

Thanks again for the help. Gives me a place to start reading. The Cauldron of the Gods is running $45 now everywhere I look but hopefully it's a good investment.

Have you read Kati-Ma Koppana's Snakefat & Knotted Threads? It's a short intro to traditional Finnish Magic. Published in 1990, I think. From what I recall, she primarily examines various healing approaches, such as the use of threads, cupping, etc.

Thanks for that. I'll have to find a copy of it as well.

This looks good, though I have not read it myself. I'd second Jan Fries' Cauldron of the Gods

Druid Shaman Priest: Metaphors of Celtic Paganism

Thanks for the continued input. I've had trouble finding a new copy of Snakefat & Knotted Threads. Anyone have any suggestions on good reliable online used book stores? I've found it at abebooks.com for a decent price and in decent conditions but any other contacts are appreciated.
