New Freedom Rides
"The Freedom Ride left Washington DC on May 4, 1961. It was scheduled to arrive in New Orleans on May 17, the seventh anniversary of the Brown decision."-1998 Lisa Cozzens
African American History Project
On May 4, 1961 a brave group of men and women decided to put their lives at risk in order to bring attention to the fight against segregation and the racism and hate that was running rampant throughout the south at the time. As someone who spent a great deal of his life in Alabama, I learned a great deal about their courage in standing against an institution founded on intimidation and blood.
It is time for Americans to take a stand against Bush, to show him that he doesn't have the madate that he thinks he has, to show Congress that if they do not start acting with the interests of the people in mind that their days are numbered, to show the world that Americans do care about justice, about humanity, and about building a better world.
The New Freedom Rides will start at varying times throught the last week of August, but will all end in and around September first. If I can answer any questions, or if anyone wants to help in any way, please respond here or e-mail me at viator1@yahoo.com |
