London: June 2: Seven Hours

This might be better in the Gathering, but I never really go in there, and it's not really about a Lither per se.

I have a friend, ex NPR worker, en route to some sort of radio production fellowship in Berlin. She's flying into Heathrow on June 2 (Thursday) and has seven hours to kill before catching the flight to Deutschland.

She'd like to get out of the airport and, if possible, see the design museum at least.

Who knows the best ins and outs of transit? Anyone care to meet someone who could give you THE DIRT on my wayward past? We've known each other for, um, more than 15 years.

Her name is Susan, and she's charming.

I'll PM you my phone number...

I already know some of your dirty past -- that's what happens when you let me sleep in your bedroom (I'll leave that without disclaimers because it's more prurient, heehee)

Her cheapest bet is to get the Piccadilly line into central London, but the quickest way is to get the Heathrow Express to Paddiington. It costs a LOT more, but only takes 20mins, which gives her more time to wander.

I really like the Design Museum, but I don't think they have any great exhibitions on at the moment. But I can take her there easy enough.

I'd take the Heathrow Express too. I normally get the tube but it's fucking slow, and if you've only got seven hours you don't want to waste them looking at adverts for car insurance and tube lit.

I'd probably go to the Tate Modern myself, and then go to a pub if there was any spare time.

I'd reccomend Evensong at Westminster if the scheduling permits - it's the one thing I saw there that I really felt could only exist in London.

I also liked the Barbican, but that's 'cause there was a great show on.
