You know those square/oblong batteries with the pos and neg connectors on one side that Legba needs for his fx pedal? What are they properly called, properly?

Anyone know how much those cables are that you plug the end of your internet cable into and then it extends it and you can plug the end of it in the phone socket? &, where to get em?

Is it even sensible thinking about sticking wireless internet thingies in the house?

Anyone had any messages from some internet community called hi5? Is it a virus? One of them viruses that makes itself look like somebody you know?

I'm all in a tizzy, but not in an overbad way.

Ian, or possibly Dave.

If it is one that looks this this:

Then it's a 9-volt battery. Around here they're commonly referred to as smoke-alarm batteries, this being the type used in most smoke alarms.

Are you dial-up? Then all you need is a normal telephone line extension cable, readily available from the likes of Argos. If you're on a cable modem, then you'd probably need a longer network cable, which you can get from the likes of dabs.com in a range of lengths, prices and colours.

Depends. If you have a broadband connection and want two or more people to share it but don't want to run cables all through the house then it is well worth considering. The hardware you need for this has fallen appreciably in price. If all you have is a dial-up connection then it's not really worthwhile. It's possible, but the connection speed would be miserable once you've got two people on the line.

Legba, have you thought about actually doing technical research yourself rather than using Barb as your own personal encyclopedia? Lot of threads like this from you lately.

Funny you should mention that....
