As promised in the Woman In Black thread from a while ago, I bring you news of this here stage version of said film. For the uninitiated: A failed classical actor gets his revenge on a group of theatre critics by killing them off in Shakespearian ways. For the initiated: It's not exactly like the film, but works very nicely in its own right, it's set in the 70's and keeps all the good bits (yes, the poodles...)
Currently in previews, it's still being tweaked and changed a bit, but I'd say it's already a pretty darn fine show (although something different has gone wrong each night so far...). Adapted and directed by the people who did Shock-Headed Peter, it stars Jim Broadbent and Rachael Stirling (who is playing her mother Diana Rigg's role from the film) with music by Joby Talbot (League of Gentlemen). It's a good tongue-in-cheek yarn with a climactic Artist vs Critic argument and some genuinely creepy and 'magical' moments. And there's lots of blood and gore. And tramps. And Jim Broadbent is great.
I operate and mix the sound and music, by the way. Tickets may well become scare soon. I cannot, unfortunately, get you all free ones, but you're welcome to stand next to the mixing desk if you want... So, might I see any of you there...? (You got your ticket yet, Boboss?) |
