Here's a preview, this is out tomorrow! Cover comes with weird photobald Prof. X picture!!

Prof. X has a chat with the Danger Room/Predator.

This is pretty irrational, but I can't shake this feeling that the fun's over if Xavier will start appearing in Astonishing. I hope I'm wrong, and there's not really any logical reason to think that way. But the cover and preview pages just fill me with dread.

I see what you mean, in a way -- the dynamics of the team Joss is working with seem just fine on their own. I want Scott to be the only leader, facing his personal demons and in charge. Having the Prof. around might mess with that a bit.

Word on the street is that they send the prof packing.

Ooooh! Off topic, but I'm loving that anime-style Rogue Buzzscope have on that page!

An actually engaging fight sequence and this great little moment where Danger realizes the X-Men are being unpredictable because they're in real Danger and not just playing in the Danger Room.

Best ish in a while.

That was in fact probably the best fight scene that Cassidy and Wheedon have done so far. And despite my dislike for baldy, Wheedon and Co have me excited for the Danger vs the Prof throwdown.

I AM, however, worried at what he's hinting at regarding Emma. I love the Emma/Scott relationship and I don't want to see a heel turn at this point.

This issue rocked hard. I agree with Birdie - this is the best issue from Whedon & Cass in a while. Got me very psyched for the Xavier/DangerPredator showdown. And I agree about not wanting to see Emma go bad again - I’m hoping it’s either just misdirection on Whedon’s part, or Emma is harboring a sort-of-bad but not-really-evil secret for some justifiable if Machiavellian reason.

A lot of people online have commented about "that violent thing that happened to Peter and Kitty -- that can't have really happened, can it?" Many think it might have Prof. X putting that into DangerPredatress' mind...to make her think she'd practically killed Peter & Kitty.

Yeah, I suspect much of that battle was a mind game.

That, would of course mean that Xavier knows Emma's secret as well.

hmm.. makes for an interesting situation. The S.W.O.R.D. mole was trapped in the Danger Room at the time of the battle so that's not her secret. Could it be something as simple as "Making Scott love her?"

This last issue has certainly raised the stakes. Seems like there's a definate Loose/Loose situation brewing.

God, that was the shittiest issue yet of an otherwise mediocre series. The fight scene was dull, the art was below usual standards, the internal monologuing was dreadfully hammy... it was bad comics. Even the few decent bits ("They're in danger!" "You've never fought *me.*") weren't all great, and were easily predictable. It was... a stupid issue. I'm tired of this series, and usually I bow down and worship Lord Whedon.

Well, at least they weren't wearing the hideous spandex.

Well, I assume it would have something to do with the mysterious person she's been talking to every few issues.

And it is IS something like "she's making scott love her", man that would piss me off. I hope whedon isn't that cheap.

To be fair, Emma and Scott are a horrible couple.

Boy needs to be single for a time. Find his feet.

Jean was too much man for Scott. Emma's just the right level of dominating and not-getting-bored-with-him.

Whedon has said he loves the Emma/Scott romance from Morrison's run and would respect and continue that in his run. So I don't think we're going to see an Emma/Scott breakup anytime soon.

you know something funny?
I've loved the Emma/scott relationship from the first hint, but i remember a lot of people saying that was a terrible option. Now, most people don't want them to break up... it's funny, and makes me wonder aboutacceptance to changes..

If the S.W.O.R.D. mole was trapped in the Danger Room at the time of the tussle, I have two questions...

1. Why would a human or mutant give a crap about some alien world enough to spy on the X-Men and live a double life?

2. Where was Lockheed during the fight? Trapped in the Danger Room mayhaps?

"To be fair, Emma and Scott are a horrible couple."

And that's why they're interesting. I thought the Scott-Jean thing was tapped out long ago. it's hard to make two people who've know each other since childhood compelling.

If stuff's done well, people tend to suffer selective amnesia as to whether they thought it was a good idea. This is why if a writer/artist is GOOD (and it's a big "if", but I certainly consider Whedon to be good) it would be a terrible thing for them to listen to the fans too much.

I am also a fan of the emma\scott thing, and have been. I also don't want to see her "turn bad" and such. She's been my favorite character since her entrance into NXM and remains as my favorite, with kitty runnin a close second ....
I just hope that "horrible thing" with her and peter was'nt real either.

Lockheed as the mole would rock. He did show up right at the start of Joss' run...where's he been hiding...?

Didn't he leg it after becoming pissed off during the whole Wisdom and Pride affair?

Well, Wisdom had been giving him the eye pretty strong, there, and then he ups and skips out with someone else; of course Lockheed needed to brood a bit on his own. 'S'what X-Men do, after all, brood alone with three or four other X-Men tagging along so the loner won't get lonely and such.

Lockheed actually stayed all the way through 'Excalibur', and disappeared when the Americans of the team returned to the States. Claremont de-aged Kitty, hamfistedly came close to outright retconning Petey Wisdom entirely away, then eventually brought back Lockheed somewhere along the line, only to drown his books in crap stories that sat dead and spinning their incestuous wheels, before he got booted off.

He got a mention, I believe, in 'MechaniX', but did not show in the purple flesh so far as I recall.

What I was refering to was of course Lockheed's disapproval of Kitty and Wisdom's relationship.
