Well, I recieved an obtuse email from when I originally joined Barbelith from some dude named Timewave Zero - who informed me that ze was the 2012th member of the Lith, and wanted me to join hir secret society. I played along.

Never heard back.

Whowuzzat?

a backhanded ref to old SHUT UP, SCOTTISH! suit, and to Boboss and Co.'s relentless self-identification as Scots—posting in dialect &c.

Ahhh, it all becomes clear! No probs, Jack; I kinda thought it was a reference I wasn't getting/remembering.

Jack, first of all I have never used the shut up scottish gag. Second, I didn't take part in the whole Smiling Friends debarcle. I barely posted on Barbelith at the time.
I should point out that I would never troll the board and that I would never participate in an activity that could cause other board members distress. I have already said that I regret the upset caused by Smiling Friends, and had I been actively engaged with the community at the time I probably would have been less than happy that it all took place on my computer*. That fact is, back then I didn't give two shits about Barbelith, and I hadn't really given any thought to the effect on the community and it's inhabitants.

In those days Barbelith simply was an extension of my meatspace. My only connection to the community was through Pap, Fraely and Gumbitch. It was a place to piss about with my mates occasionally. You might have noticed that I behave differently these days.

I'm slightly worried that you seem to be making the age old mistake of conflating Pap and myself. Being a twin I'm pretty senstive to that kind of thing and I'd rather that you criticise me for things that I did rather than for things that Pap did.

I should add that Smiling Friends felt inspired at the time. These days a little less so.

I didn't, and should have, made that clear.

By the way, I challenge you to find one single example of me self identifying as Scottish.

I think we can all agree that Jack's completely fucked up the placement of his rage in this instance. Jack? Learn to proof read something you've taken offence with (however much extra anger it'll cause) because you've made a completely clusterfuck of a telling off here.

Although Jack didn't make it clear in his post, I think he's arguing that I'm guilty for letting it happen on my computer. At least I hope so, otherwise he really is suffering from a bad case of twinny confusion, which would be pretty weird; We look rather different online.
I also think he's pissed at what he sees as my lack of regret.

Jack I might add that it pays TO GET YOUR FUCKING FACTS RIGHT BEFORE BEING AN ASSHOLE.

Fair enough. Conflation and guilt-by-association coupled with a blind fury (yeah, it still makes me angry to think of it) led perhaps to a wee bit of confusion on my part, and misplaced/displaced abuse. That, and the fact that you lot were changing your suit-names so often for a while there that I kinda lost track.

Thank you, Boboss, for laying your cards on the table, and my apologies for shooting the messenger.

Still wrangling with the issue of whether I've a right to be angry at you at all—I can't shake the feeling that, ethically, you're not entirely in the clear—but that can wait for another day.

I would still be interested in hearing the thoughts of the participating parties (Pappuce and the Harrison Ford Battlesuit) with regards to the Smiling Friends incident.

A Chewbacca suit would be fun if not extremely one note, maybe to post in the more serious threads with long dialogues consisting of "rrrrrrowwwwwww rrrr rroww rrrrgggrrrr" perfectly formatted quoting other's text constantly but (well) obviously taking the absolute piss.

On the issue of the Smiling Friends suit I don't think I am in clear ethically, but it's taken a few years and a much bigger commitment to the community to see that.

Oh, and Fraely and Gumbitch didn't have anything to do with it.

I have imaginary friends, and most of them are only concerned with our imaginary world (and thus don't want to join Barbelith), but one of them wants to. I don't think he'd be allowed to join, though. He's really nice. He says he wants to name himself "Let's Sew Our Pants Together".

So it's not really a suit that I want to wear, but to other people it would seem that way....

Your internet shlebrity dear,
(in relation to a comment that you're verging on internet famous in your going professional thread)
I'd like to cover this up by saying that this is solely a concept suit which leaves out words in an attempt to challenge bourgeois ideals about posting standards. (sob)

Yeah, I got that one. I didn't play along as I thought it was a pretty crap idea. The idea was that by posting as Timewave Zero we'd create some sort of super magican entity, with amazing powers. Never quite could see how that was going to work. Thanks for the ID, Strix - I thought it was Modzero.

Timewave Zero was, IIRC, a multiple suit, intended to become a superhuman entity, using the shared knowledge of all those who uccupied it to give an impression of a single poster of superhuman intelligence. The two members identified as using it were ModZero/Cat's iao/Alpha Beth and Rex City-Zen. Some of our more seasoned posters might see the problem with this otherwise brilliant plan. The suit was a casualty of the removal of various shared/multiple suits.

Probably won't happen tho.

Maybe someday...

I once had another suit (named Marco Polo) for maybe a month, which I used to post things without thinking or things I wouldn't post under my main suit... which I thankfully soon realized was a bad idea for obvious reasons... there's a reason you should think before you post!

Suits? A common language separates us. At first, I'd thought this thread would be about liquid latex Nehru jackets imaginatively crafted. Then I'd though it'd be about overly ambitious bridge bids.

You're kidding me. You've found yourself on Barbelith with no prior knowledge or assumptions of what fictionsuits are or might be?

I'm impressed.

Best mix englais and español if you're Tex Mex. Try spanglish.

Legba: Do that. Do that NOW.

I intended to post the word OBJECTION! to every post I disagreed with in my current ficsuit. Feel like I've missed my chance, now.

Daemon- as far as Barbelith is generally concerned, a "fictionsuit" is the identity you go by on the board. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that unless your father was Gregory Peck, your parents did not name you "Daemon", just as mine didn't name me "Spyder" (though clearly they should have). For the most part, when people on Barbelith refer to their "suits" they are referring to their fictionsuits. That being said, there may be a thread on suits(article of clothing) in the fashion and design forum. Hope that clears things up!

If you can only have one suit at a time though, it's a funny kind of fiction. More like autobiography, perhaps.

Daemom est Deus Inversus (D.e.D.I.) is my magickal motto. I hide neither that nor my real name. Still, a common language does separate us. I'd just never heard 'suit' used in that context.
