James Morgan Pryse has seemingly been forgotten, but the man's work should be read far and wide. In the early 20th Century he published several books that not only revealed Christianity as the rip-off of older Pagan religions it has always been, but also freed mankind from the centuries-long fear of "armageddon," as foretold in "Revelations."
These days, scholars like Timothy Freke, Peter Gandy, and Earl Doherty are basically relaying the same information Pryse did a century ago, however, to my knowledge, not a one of them has credited Pryse.
The most amazing thing is that Pryse wrote his books before the discovery of the gnostic scriptures in Nag Hammadi, yet he still had a definite understanding of the inner meanings of Christianity -- unlike the mistaken Crowley, Pryse wasn't under the impression that the early Christian gnostics engaged in deviant sex antics to reach their inner god.
Many writers will tell you that there are "hidden" meanings in the gospels, but Pryse is the only author to show you them, and to prove he's correct. His argument is that Jesus never existed, and was in fact a Jewish graft of ancient Pagan dying/resurrecting godmen; Pryse conclusively proves this. He also gives insight into the more mystical elements of Christianity. In short, I think his books would appeal to a lot of people on here. I'd also say "Apocalypse Unsealed" is a must-read for all who are interested in anything mystical and esoteric -- and it should be required reading for all those who adhere to the Fundamentalist/"end is nigh" reading of the so-called "Book of Revelations."
Only problem -- since Pryse's books were written so long ago, the reader will have to track down old and used copies. There's a publishing company in the US named Kessinger that's reprinted all of his books, however Kessinger just releases cheap-looking books that are obviously photocopies of early editions, with plain white covers. A total rip-off, especially when you factor in the high price Kessinger charges for these crap reproductions.
I have reviewed all but one of Pryse's gnostic Christianity books on Amazon -- I've read the only one I didn't review, "Reincarnation in the New Testament," but for some reason never got around to reviewing it. The reviews are under this name, buttergun, and I give more detail on who Pryse was and the secrets he uncovered in each book:
