Living Colour

Hello all. Just rediscovered an old tape of Living Colour's Vivid and I'm astonished that I stopped liking them. For God's sake why? There are so many brilliant tracks on there. I really can't remember what happened. I was a huge fan and then suddenly wasn't and own nothing else by them. Did they get shit or something? I snooped around, and it seems they re-formed recently. Are their other records worth getting?

'Time's Up' is well worth getting. It may sound a teeny bit dated but ... ah not really, it's just that everyone seems to do that 'each track in a different musical style' thing now.

It is indeed a jolly good album. I have it on LP and no player, so thanks for adding to my CD budget this month grrr!!

How can you argue with the couplet:

Time's up - the rivers have no life.
Time's up - the world is full of strife
?

You can't, that's how. That's Mel C quality.

I remember these guys! I was never a huge fan but did tape a couple of their albums off a frind of mine and used to listen to them in the car. I'd imagine they'd sound a bit dated now - hmm. Will dig out the tapes when I visit home next month.

Well you can tear a building dowwwwwwn, but you can't erase a memoreeeeee ...

GKB - have you considered getting a turntable?

That's a bit of a personal question. How would you like it if someone asked YOU that in a public forum?

Oh, you know... I was just thinking, because I have about 400 tapes (as in magnetic tape cassettes) in a big box, and I was thinking "hey, if I digitise all of these using Audacity (or similar), I'll be able to listen to them any time! Or, you know, I could use a tape player..." It just hadn't occurred to me.

You don't even need a good tape player. Mine doesn't even have a rewind! Anyway, yes, I can heartily recommend doing just that and spending hours every day thinking "did I reaaly like THAT?" (currently doing a Pale Saints album).
Anyway, back on topic. Thanks for the ambivalence, I think I may hold off for a while, but if I see a bargain bin Living Colour album (always wondered why they had a U in there. Ever noticed that?) I'll get it.

You know what Haus? I would, but every time I look at a turntable in a magazine I feel dirty.

Yeah, but is it good dirty...?

I used to love Living Colour. I'm pretty sure I queued up at HMV Newcastle once to get my CDs signed. And then I sold them not that long after. Oh well. I'd be interested to see if I liked them now, but I'm probably not going to rush out and find out.

I seem to recall that there was some significance to their using the British spelling of 'colour', but I can't remember what. Sorry.

Their correct spelling, you mean ... ?

(rubs hands evilly ... and good dirtily)

Oh, here's another reason I like them. Guitarist Vernon Reid was born in Paddington, London. Just like me! But earlier.

Well, yes, the correct spelling. Obviously. Like, "duh!" etc, etc...

Sorry Meem, I only need the slightest excuse to rub my hands evilly and good dirtily.

They used to play at my college a lot, so I saw them a bunch of times in the later 80s, early 90s. Great band to dance around in the grass to while drinking beer. Vernon Reid was a hell of a guitarist. Probably still is.

For my money, the albums went downhill after Vivid.
