Voting shows always favour modernity, simply because the most recent releases wil be uppermost in people's minds. They also, oddly, favour artists without bodies of good work. For example, Bowie suffers because he has a good six or seven albums that might contend for "favourite album" status, so his vote is divided.

I actually at down to watch it prepared for a good old shout at the telly, and was faintly disappointed. There were more things on there that I agreed with than I expected. There were still a fair few "oh, FUCK OFF!" moments, though.

I was pleasantly surprised by Joy Division's "Closer"- I prefer it to Unknown Pleasures myself (brilliant though both albums are), but Pleasures always seems to be the one that gets featured in lists.

Surprisingly little from this decade though, I thought. Granted the demographic was pretty obviously of a certain age and background ( most of the post-2000 entries might charitably be referred to as 'in-car' listening, ) but still, five years in and from that list anyway, there's a feeling that the 21st century hasn't really got going yet - I'm guessing a similar poll for movies would feature a lot more in the way of recent material...

How British is putting Radiohead in the number one spot? This might start a whole crusade against my family, but.... was OK Computer that good? Sure, it had some decent songs, and I love Paranoid Android. It's just not the greatest album ever. The Beatles should be owning this list.

How British is putting Oasis on the list twice? Come on! And above the Beatles and Queen?

How in the hell does Dido get a spot above Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, The Police, Red Hot Chili Peppers, AND NEIL YOUNG? This list is inducing tumours in my brain! AHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! I'm going to lie down now.

Once you've seen a few of these lists, you just stop paying attention. You know there's going to be no thought or imagination put into them, it's just a restatement of the dull and orthodox view of the music that COUNTS.

The thing that is annoying is seeing what are actually really good albums in there below really shit ones. Pixies' Doolittle made it in, but then "Fat of the Land" is higher than that? It's those little things that do get under your skin.

Yes, the Beatles should feature more prominently in these lists, always! Then they would not be predictable and boring, they would be GREBT! And also the Red Hot Chili Peppers Hearts Club Band, they are grebt also. Most grebt.
