hey there everyone
just thought some of you might like to know that promethea volume 5 is being solicited. the book will contain the entire last story arc from the series. along with this collection there will be a bound in foldout poster version of issue 32 at a reduced size from its original format. this will also be double sided. issue 32 will also be printed in the book in its "comic" format but for the collected edition all of the pages will be printed rightside up. from what i'm being told the poster will also be in the paperback edition to be made available at a later date. there is also going to be extra art in the form of a new cover, frontice piece, 7 chapter heads, and an end cap piece. also included is a "how we did it section" written by todd klein and myself. this section should be interesting since it will feature some of the artwork before it was dramatically altered for the final product. hope all of this will interest some of you.
thanks

Awesome news J.H. I was wondering what the fate of the poster would be once Book 5 was collected.

It's too bad that that makes this post a solicitation. Exception in the name of quality work?

Anyway, Yay! I wonder what color? Green, violet, brown, white... red?

Really looking forward to this. I may even order from my Comic Shop, rather than wait for Amazon. How's that for dedication?

Thanks for the info on the contents.

you are all welcome. and sorry for making it sound like a sales pitch. but i have been posting this announcement everywhere i can because from what i understand the diamond spot doesn't really go into the specifics of what is in the book. so i think that is kinda lame considering a lot of people decide on what they want based on the extras they get. anyway i also want to mention that desolation jones issue 2 should be out the same month. july? other news that may be of interest is that i will be launching a new website soon. it is under construction right now and is turning out nice. if no one minds i would like to make an announcement for the actual launch when its ready if no one here minds.

I think it's safe to say that any details concerning your work are always welcome here, jhw3.

And on behalf of most 'Lithers, I am sure, let me ask: How was it like working with Grant Morrison on 7S? Any plans to collaborate again?

Yeah! Your work was amazingly (and intentionally) diverse. Will you be the artist responsible for the Seven Soldiers issue 1 in a year?

JHW, any news on the Promethea Absolute Edition? Is that going to bring back the unaltered art, and also, I read you wanted to revise some stuff from the first few issues, is that going to happen for the Absoulte?

hey there mr. tulpa
thanks for your graciousness in regards to my posting about upcoming publications for myself. very appreciated. i do know that people can get upset sometimes about promotional plugs.
about working with grant...i actually had a blast working on 7 soldiers zero and i think it shows. it has a lot of energy to it. i've had the opportunity to talk with him on the phone a few times now and found him very easy to talk to. i think we relate to things in a lot of similar ways. he very much liked what i did with his story as well and we have been mulling over the idea of possibly doing something creator owned together at some point down the road. it seems like we could really work well together creatively and i look forward to it.

hey there chad
thanks for you kind comments on 7 soldiers zero. yes i am going to be doing the final book end which i will be starting on very soon. i'm glad that you liked the diverse qualities of the first one because we are going to push that even more with my next part. it's gonna be a lot of fun and very challenging. from what grant has told me he wants to take full advantage of my willingness to try anything and see what happens.

hey there patrickMM and d.furioso
we are trying our best to get an absolute edition of promethea in the works but i'm not sure if it will happen. at this point the editor is telling me that we have an uphill battle on our hands because, from i can gather, is that the publisher isn't sure that they can sell enough of them to warrant doing it. personally i don't think it will be any problem because i am being asked about it all of the time from many, many people. and i have told the publisher this. are they listening? time will tell. but i do know that if we do get to do an absolute promethea it will be very impressive. the current idea is to have the entire series in one massive volume and reformat everything so every double page spread becomes a single wide page in order to take full advantage of the way its really meant to be seen. and yes it should have all of extra art and other touches that have come with the previous collections, including the unaltered artplus more. in other words this would be the book to end all books. it would showcase the story in a way that would literally reinvent the experience of reading it. which, taking the context of what the series is about, seems highly appropriate. don't you think? so send out your absolute vibes and lets make this happen.

hey there thomasmunkholt
they are referring to the unaltered art from issue 32 that will make up a 5 page "how we dit it" section in the upcoming collection to promethea. promethea volume 5.

Hey JW3. Is DC/Wildstorm taking into account sales in places like Virgin Megastores & New Age bookshops? And art bookshops large & small? My father-in-law runs a small art bookshop in Brasilia and I know he'd order two copies (he was amazed by the HCs).

Seems to me that the aforementioned outlets would be perfectly suited to an expensive yet unbelievably cool project like ABSOLUTE PROMETHEA. Maybe it'd be a slow burn, word of mouth seller, but there's no way they'd wind up sitting on much of their print run. Hopefully, they'll use those legendary deep corporate pockets to fund this venture. After all, it is, IMHO and those of many, one of the great works in comics (and magick).

Keep us posted if we can help via an online petition of some sort (anybody have know-how RE this angle?). I think a website petition (Yes, i will buy this, etc) helped the FREAKS & GEEKS Dvd set come out, because Dreamworks balked at the initial cost, which was high due to the show's extensive use of well-known 1980s pop music. Our voices shall be heard!

PS: hawk your projects here anytime, dude, your work is brilliant & beautiful.

hey there d.furioso
lots of great ideas. i have no idea where the publisher tries to market the books outside of comic shops. considering that i have NEVER EVER seen a single collection of promethea or any other abc material in any of the major bookstores that i have been to with the exception of league of extraordinary gentlemen. i do know that that it can be found online though. go figure.

i love your idea of an online petition website sort of thing to let your wishes be known for an absolute promethea. if you or anyone else want to do that, i say go for it. if this is done i can even link it up to my site when its actually up and running. but i think the petition idea is a great one and would probably generate a lot of attention by media sources. attention that i don't think the publisher could really ignore for long. so again if you want to do it, go for it.

Hi JH, is this "how we did it section" in Vol5 completly different from the one in the covers book? Feel free to add to the solicitation info if there is stuff in the other 16 pages that would help someone decide to buy this if, say they were big admirers of your (& Mick & Jeromy & Todds)work & interested in insights in the process but they are on a budget & will have all the covers anyway when the last paperback collection is finally released.

Hi JH (& everyone):

I have no idea how to do such a petition, but this crowd here seems resourceful & smart, so maybe we can suss it out.

And my local Borders (Glendale, CA: part of LA near Pasadena) carries Tom Strong HCs & trades, Top Ten trades & Terrific tales. DC should hit up Borders "new age" buyer and see if they can't interest him or her in picking up promethea for that section. Alas, as I understand it, the various buyes are highly competative. For instance, Gaiman & Mckean's two wonderful kids books are ONLY stocked with GNs, not in the kid's section. And the novel "The Curious indicent of the Dog in nightime," a "murder mystery told from the POv of an autistic teen, is only stocked in the lit section, despite being a YA novel. Go figure.

Anyway, I'd pony up major $$$ up front for an Absolute Promethea collection. Guess it's too big a ventur for print on demand.

RE Petitions:
'kay, this one seems easy, free & do-able:

http://www.ipetitions.com/index.html

Anybody used one of these b4?

JH: can/should I contact Wildstorm and see what kind of data (we can generate out own questions for the petition, etc) would be most helpful? (Other than the obvious one: would you buy it?) Maybe WS could give some sort of guestimated pricing structure (one volume, or two, or three) to see which one people would prefer. Who would I contact @ WS?

I'm totally up for getting this off the ground, bearing in mind I have no experience save a nascent career in TV production. Anybody interesting in collaborating, email me here:

Let's get this thing moving!!

hey there mr squiggle
the how we did section is not the same in the covers book as it is in the book 5 collection. in the covers book i'm talking about cover work only and it is more of a commentary than a how we did it thing. in the book 5 collection the how we did it section is specifically about issue 32 only and it is 4 or 5 pages long. the other extra pages consist of previously unseen art in the form chapter heads and such. hope that clears it up for ya.

hey there d.furioso
about this whole petition thing...i have no clue whatsoever of how to handle it either and i'm not sure who you would talk to at wildstorm other than the editor of the series. that is if they are even willing to respond to enquiries. this is all new to me too. but i am so glad that someone out there is thinking about this and is willing to do something about it. you might try contacting one of news groups to see if they might be helpful in your endeavor. you might try contacting frank beaten at frankbeaton.com. he might be a good advocate in this idea as well. i think the real trick to doing this is getting it to be seen and circulated. that might be how the news groups could be helpful but i think they would rather make it a news story once the whole thing has started. just some ideas.

Hiya d furioso
count me in to help with the petition in any way I can.

for the Absolute Promethea how about also including the Steve Moore and Eric Shanower Little Margie in Misty Magic Land stories as well. Including the second one that hasn't been published yet.

JH: I posted on the AM yahoo group & gave a shout out to Dunbier (who sometimes posts there) but it hasn't shown up yet. Lately, I am plagued my vanishing emails, it seems...

I'm posting again and plan to get a petition at least in place & ready to go this weekend.

Again, one and all, email me at mark-parsons@sbcglobal.net if you have feedback, such as AM discussion groups, sites, that a petition link can be posted upon. Also comics sites to post the pet. on (I know the usual suspects Comicon & Newsarama). I'm sure the pool is slightly modest, but suggest away, as I may be missing a cool site, etc.
