I like the look of this book. 2/15 The Day The World Said NO To War. I know, commercialisation and sentimentalism but I'm sure to get a copy when I have the money.

Have you read or heard of any other books on the protest?

The problem with claiming '2/15' as a date of world significance is that it means nothing to people who record dates in day/month/year form. February 15th might have been something globally significant but 2/15 was certainly not.

Yup, 15/2 makes much more sense than 2/15 over this side of the Atlantic. 2/15 means the Archers' repeat has just finished and it's time for a tedious afternoon play.

Haven't read the book, FiC, but I did read Ian MacEwan's SATURDAY which is entirely set within the confines of 15 Feb, Day of the Biggest March in History in London. Interesting ways MacEwan plays with the idea of altruism, violence, self serving politics, self delusion. Would recommend it heartily.

It is also, sadly, the case that the world didn't actually say No to war on that date, or else the present Iraq mess wouldn't be trundling unhappily on. Bit of hyperbole there. A lot of sensible people did say No, including my pal the late Pope, but the people with the power to make war or make peace didn't agree.
