no experiments had been conducted, and that the patent "was based on an inspiration that this may someday be the direction that technology will take us."

so, they have semingly only really patented the *idea* of beaming stimulation into the brain... hmmmm

bit suss, really. our centre works with TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) and one of the major problems with this technique is aiming the pulses, 'cause the sulci in the frontotemporal lobes are folded and so the angle of incidence of the pulses are not able to be accurately positioned in very small detail... only broad areas can be affected and this limits the potential to stimulate/inhibit particular nueronal areas... also, the technique also only works effectively in the outer brain parts - getting to the amygdala, for example, would be most difficult.

still and all, a fascinating direction - let's hope it is used for more worthwhile purposes than just playing games!

I believe this technology is based on ultrasound, not magnetism.

By the way, astrojax, have you met the user sine? Hangs out in the Temple mostly, does similar rTMS work, started this thread about the technology....

Er, hang on. They patented an idea? Like, just an idea? So if I create this tech tomorrow, I can't sell it?

Ah, I'm a fierce twat sometimes. They patented a specific method of beaming visions into the brain. Ignore me, I'll go.

I suggest you check out this site: This is a device that uses TMS & rTMS Magnetic Stimulation. Quite interesting. Was developed with research from Dr.Persinger. Let me know your thoughts please.

RESEARCH - MAGNETIC STIMULATION -- REMOTE VIEWING -- OUT- OF- BODY EXPERIENCES -- THE SENSED PRESENCE -- OPIATE EFFECTS

enhancement and spiritual experiences. It can utilize 16 signals, placed over 5 areas of the brain for a range of effects.

Shakti For Windows is available with two or four coils and costs from 70 to 100 dollars. The two-coil version is limited to mono signals, and the four coil version takes advantage of both stereo channels so that different signals can be applied to each side of the brain.

SHAKTI - 2 and 4 coil units
The 8-Coil Shakti is designed to facilitate intense spiritual experiences. It's the closest to the "Koren Helmet" featured in many television documentaries about alien abductions, near-death experiences and the paranormal. This is the newest version of this technology to be made available. It costs 220 dollars. It can utilize five different signals applied over four areas of your head.

Alternating (or rotating) the signals between the two pairs of coils greatly amplifies the power of this technology.

"Dr. Persinger has designed a helmet that produces a very weak rotating magnetic field of between ten nanotesla and one microtesla over the temporal lobes of the brain. This is placed on the subject's head and they are placed in a quiet chamber while blindfolded. So that there is no risk of 'suggestion', the only information that the subjects are given is that they are going in for a relaxation experiment. Neither the subject nor the experimenter carrying out the test has any idea of the true purpose of the experiment. In addition to this, the experiment is also run with the field switched both off and on. This procedure Dr. Persinger claims will induce an experience in over 80% of test subjects."
