Trade the Universe

I dabble a little in the markets: commodities, FX and shares. Most active markets by sheer volume of participants are subject to random price fluctuation. Some, such as commodities, follow more predictable patterns of growth and decay. Fibonnaci and sacred geometry are useful in this regard.

Markets work on two principal emotions i.e. hope and fear. I tend to be more hopeful than fearful and consequently take my profits too late and let my losses run for too long. However, I have noticed that when I obsess about a trade that may be going wrong then it does. When I don't care anymore and walk away then most of the time it starts to go my way.

When trading, I am only interested in relative movement, not the absolute value of something. Short term day trends change on a whim. Absolute movement is kept in check with the Law of Vibration for each stock. I now use an approach where I mentally distill relevant facts and figures to set my intention. Often my gut feel / intention has the final say whether it will be up or down. I then fire off the trade with a tight stop-loss (to avoid being wiped out financially) and forget about it. It is amazing how much better my trading has become. I could of course simply be on a lucky streak... Although I doubt I would find employment with any respectable investment bank. :-)

What do you think? Anyone have any similar experiences? And if anyone tries to tell me that magic(k) should not be used for personal gain then I would say, "does the Universe really care about our issues with materialism"?

I tried this with the I Ching a while ago, more just to see what would happen than anything else. The procees was simply, pick something tipped in the Sunday business pages as a rising stock, then consult the I Ching along the lines of 'What will result if I invest in..., at...'

What I learned was, you have to be very strict in your interpretation if you're going to be successful at this - There's no room for vague New Age thought with regard to personal growth or related when it comes to this stuff; if the initial reading isn't overwhelmingly positive, stay well away. Also, anything with 'changing lines' is completely contraindicated. But, once those harsh lessons have been learned ( I'd recommend a couple of dry runs, definitely, ) it does seem to work out, the I Ching as a system not being one of those that seems particularly averse to materialism, philosophically.

The main thing is, it's the book that's making the decisions, not you. The minute there's any hint of personal opinion when it comes to your reading of the material, you will regret it.

At least that's my theory - if you're so minded as to give it a go, remembering that all you're doing is asking is 'what would happen if...' at least to begin with, I'd be interested to hear how it turns out.

Interesting. Can't say I have much experience with the I-Ching. I tend to stay away from "systems" as a rule. Contradiction, I know.

I see it more as being a quantum observer in a state of infinite potential. As the observer I am integral to whether the price will go up or down in future. Until the wave function collapses and the move is observed we have no way of knowing which way it will go i.e. it's purely a random 50/50 thing. After all, we're not talking about the lottery here which is more like a 1/zillion thing.

By setting the intention and having faith in the outcome (i.e. not caring about it) I am perhaps influencing the result. However, logically this breaks down at some point. If all traders around the world were somehow in instant telepathic contact then I doubt that their faith would be the same. This could then lead us on to a multiple simultaneous Universe model which could get more than a little tricky and even illogical (gasp).

Very interesting. I consulted an online I-Ching site: http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/free_I_Ching_reading/indexF.html and asked "will the price of oil go up or down from here?" The primary hexagram that came back said something like "strength lies upwards". Bingo! Even though market sentiment appeared to be pointing down I entered a buy trade and walked away. Came back to it a moment ago and have just taken a nice little profit as the market did indeed rise. The experiment continues....

Excellent. After over a year on this board, that's got to be the first time anything I've said's been of any practical use whatsoever.

Interesting that you used an on-line reading though. As I understand it, that shouldn't 'really' work, since, as with tarot cards ( which are less suitable for this kind of thing incidentally - too imprecise, ) you're supposed to handle the oracular materials personally, but on the other hand, if the idea behind the I-Ching's to in some way commune with 'the spirit of the book,' and you're dealing in any case with virtual trading, there's no particular reason I can think of why a computerised reading wouldn't work just as well, if not better.

It also sounds as if you get more of a definite, one line answer over the net, which has to be good thing in this kind of context, where philosophical complexities tend to just muddy the waters.
