Miss Congeniality 2: Armed & FABULOUS

This is a sociological experiment. The object of this experiment is to see how many people will respond to this thread, hopefully in an on-topic way.

I have never seen the movie, nor do I wish to.

I went to see this movie tonight and I throughly enjoyed it in a thoroughly un-sociological way. This is not a surprise as I also really loved the first Miss Congeniality film.

Not only was it totally femme-slashable but Miss United States found her man, William Shatner was saved by a woman and the best bit of the movie was when the she-glam was dropped and the trouser-suit-glam came back into the game. Was there ever a better poster child for violent law enforcement and tomboyishness than Sandra? The answer is NO.

Apologies for only skimming your post, Nina, but I read the words "Shatner", "dropped" and "trouser". I'm too scared to read it in detail.

I have been in e-contact with Greg Evigan, re the cruise.

He was a touch non-committal, though

He said - It doesn't look like the cruise is going ahead ( lack of interest or something, I don't know. I did my absolute best to explain just how much as Brits dig his work basically, ) but he said

" You're drunk. "

" No Greg, " I said " No, I'm not. "

Greg Evigan is hott, especially in this photo:

There's no "especially in this photo" in GREG.

GREG=HOTT.

ALWAYS.

It's an absolute. And you know what you don't do with absolutes, kids?

That's right.

You don't FUCK with them.

You don't even TOUCH their BITS.

no cruise? are you serious? my life is over.

Don't you clever dicks diss the fabulous Sandra Bullock. Miss Congeniality was great. MC2 is probably a mistake but it can't be Sandra's fault.

I stopped liking Sandra ever since she started whinning in The Net. I ignore her more than I do lawn gnomes.

Ain't dissin' the Bullock, Xoc.

I'm ALL ABOUT THE GREG.

Always the better of the Two Dads, I thought. And anyone who DIDN'T think so, and thought THAT QUISLING TURNCOAT COMPANY-MAN MOTHERFUCKER FROM ALIENS was the better of the Two Dads, well...

...well...

...we'll see about them. Won't we, Greg?

Xoc,

I can only concur.

I've always been a big fan of Sandra B's style, and I think, as well... well I think, as well, if she really met me, IRL, she would really like me, y'know ?!

She wouldn't really worry about all that stuff on the ceiling.

's cool. I will put my firearm away and be peaceable, since you have convinced me of your good faith and your Bullockophility.

And don't start taking any liberties, just because I'm momentarily becalmed. I may have the body of a weak and feeble middle aged man but I have the heart and stomach of a teenage girl, and a teenage girl with a firearm too.

In case Flyboy asks, 'twas me that nixed his sending of this back to FTVT. It's way too much fun. And those FTVT types don't care about GREG. It's true. They don't. Not like I do.

I heart him, you know. Properly.

Have you seen it? You better have else how do you have an excuse for calling it a mistake? I thought it was great!

The first one wasn't bad. The second one *looks* atrocious, but it's got Shatner in it, so I'll have to watch it eventually.

I thought it looked atrocious too but then it warmed my heart.

totally femme-slashable

With reference to this, it's probably important to note that there is no ostensible romantic plot in this film. This is another reason why it is great. Also, I had always liked Miss America from the last one, and she was funnier (even more vapid) in MC2. Besides, I've always liked Sandra Bullock.

Yes there is! Fuller and Hart 4evah!

BFF! (IDST) All with their nearly holding hands and occasional Tina Turner dance numbers. Incidentally, how many focus groups do you think said, 'The thing I liked best about Miss Congeniality was where she hit people in the groin'? That happened a lot more than last time, I think.

Loads I should think. I enjoyed the graphic violence quite a lot.

Yes, I nixed it the first time but now it's actually about the film, so I'll put a move up.

Stoat,

It doesn't look like Greg's cruise is 'officially' going ahead, but that's not necessarily to say that putting a 'something' in Evigan's lager, and then gently removing him to somewhere deep in the Bermuda Triangle, of which journey he'd have no recollection, wouldn't play well in the ratings.

He'd be so, like 'Man, fuck... Er, what am I doing here ?'

Jack Vincennes
10:18 / 13.04.05
You can never have too much of that for my money, to be honest. Referring to both the graphic violence and the abduction of Greg Evigan.

Readers who are in this thread for the latest ideas and opinions on Miss Congeniality 2 may be interested to note that amongst the other, undoubtedly gifted, actors in this movie is Enrique Murciano (sp, I'll warrant), who seems to be one of the world's top actors in the field of shouting 'Freeze, FBI!' and hanging around being goofy. ('Hey guys, guess what, I found some evidence!')

Seriously though, my favourite scene was the one where they tried to get Miss United States to make the ransom video and she launched in to the pagaent song. Who knew she had such perfect timing?

The question here, though, must be: does anybody like the Machinist better for having been made aware of the existence of "Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous"?

What a strange "must" you harbor, Haus.

Rather, it must be more along the lines of "why don't a certain type of overtly commercial movies recieve space here when others do?" and subsequently: "why must Nina deflate her clout (and attempt a "deeper" commentary) by being defiant because I'm the instigator of this thread?"

I don't doubt that she could like the movie. However, she seems to season her posts with righteous glee directed at me. Seems to walk the line between genuine affection of the movie and ironic commentary upon yours truly, though.

With the former possibility in mind, I don't fault her because the time I spend on devising a post varies greatly. Factually this arises from:

1 - Not having a direct online resource, thus being constricted in how much time I can afford to strengthen my posts. And -

2 - That I have a deeply flawed writing method. I'm not too above myself to not consider this possibility, so apologies if I rub against any high standards I really should be attentive towards.

But this is only a possibility, you know. And it could be because I'm inferring too much onto someone's posting method, who probably doesn't even have these intentions to begin with.

But that is a strange "must" you harbor nonetheless, Haus.

Okay. Glad to clear that up, Nina. It leaves Haus' post to be cleared up, then.

Topically, I have seen the first movie. I was still working in a hotel at the time and during the dull hours I would have the choice between Miss Congeniality and 13 Days. I always preferred Miss Congeniality. And although I don't mind my fun being escapist, I don't think it is a great, great movie. Passable fun if you have no other choice.

Does it compare better, this new one, Nina?

BBB: Essentially, because you appeared to be angry that others did not share your feelings about The Machinist. Forgive me if I misunderstood your intention.

D Terminator XXXIII
12:03 / 14.04.05
Allright, but it would be foolish of me to be angry because people challenge my views on a movie, especially when I deliberately fail to engage in the discussion for selfish reasons. As it stands, the critique and playfulness levelled at it doesn't tarnish my enjoyment of it.

So, there.

I'm looking forward to Miss Congeniality 2! I thought the first one was great. I thought 28 Days was great, too. Was that what it was called? The one about rehab. And Speed of course. But I'm not a Sandra Bullock fan. I like these movies in spite of her.

Out on DVDF on Monday 11th July! Woohoo!

It will be a marvellous antidote to the stresses of the past week.
