Orange, strawberry and banana blended together to make a fresh fruit smoothie.

NB . Never. Ever. pollute your smoothies with the fetid taint of dairy...

veg: mushrooms
fruit: tomato

I could live on those two things. But I also love brocolli, green beans, aubergines, peppers, onions, mangoes, grapes, carrots, parsnips, potatoes .....yum!

Mushrooms are great but I've got a big thing at the moment for red onion, red onion with everything - cruchy and spicy it can't be beaten at the moment.

Fruit - probably pineapple but fruit works best for me when combined.

Next time I come for you, I'm gonna want some cocktail... FRUIT!

Grapefruit- it's not just a fruit; it's a Fully Loaded Breakfast Defense System.

With you on the red onions bear. I bought a bag of them last week and they're going down a treat.

I love most vegetables and couldn't possibly pick only one. Equal favourites would probably be broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, corn, peppers, parsnips, cucumber. I adore them all in different ways.

I like all types of fruit but I'm never really bothered to seek out different varieties so I tend to just eat lots of bananas. Mind you the fruit I probably eat the most of would be lemons as I squeeze lemon juice on lots of things I eat. Few things can't be improved by some olive oil and lemon juice.

God, yes. Broccoli. To think, I used to hate broccoli when I was a kid. I used to hate mushrooms, too. I was the dumbest kid ever.

Veg of the moment is aubergines, though. I was given a bag - a whole bag! - of aubergines a few days ago, so that’s all I’ve been eating since. It’s been aubergine week, all week, this week. I’m really enjoying it.

Is garlic a vegetable? Only, I reckon I could probably just about live without onions, if I had to, if there was a nuclear war and all the onions in the world died, but life would be utterly meaningless without garlic.

Oranges! Juicy, sweet, sharp, orange oranges.

Bought aubergines too - love the word - with the intention of making aubergine casserole, but the oven's not working. So what delicious aubergine thing can I prepare with no oven?

(P.S. The grill's not working either.)

Fruit: Bananas. They're more like a fattening dessert than a fruit.

Vegetable: Tomatoes. They're everywhere.

Fry your aubergine. Cut it up into thick slices, sprinkle with salt, let it sit and sweat out its bitterness, blot, and pan fry it in olive oil. Fry until golden brown, near the end, throw on slices of cheese, once the cheese melts, put the slices in a crusty french baguette that's been split in half lengthwise. Add slices of tomato and/or roasted red pepper. Drizzle with pesto and sprinkle with salt and freshly cracked black pepper. Enjoy.

aubergine...yuck I'm afraid. For some reason it's the only veg that I really can not eat.

Veg, I like most things veg-wise. But the humble potato is often overlooked. It can be so much more than fries or chips. Wonderful thing is the potato.

Fruit, let me see. Blackberries are probably my favourite and they taste even better if you have gone out and picked them yourself.

Fruit: Banana, more tasty than something healthy has any right to be.
Veg: Sprouts, they're much maligned, but tasty as hell if cooked properly.

Fruit: apples, particularly Granny Smiths.
Veg: parsnips. They're the best bit of any full roast.

Veg: Carrots, Edamame, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Cabbage - anything really. It's good stuff.

I'm all about avocados at the moment.
Either chunked and put in a baguette with cubes of feta, or hollowed out and filled with vinaigrette.

Ooh! Romaneco:

...or cosmic broccoli, as absolutely no-one calls it. Mix it up with some chillis, serve with some Jefferson Airplane and a sense of childlike wonder at, like, the universe.

Good Christing Jesus!

You mean to say that my 12-hour, head-twisting, godform-contacting psychotrip to the nethersphere was actually just spent staring at a vegetable? How dissapointingly common.

I likes peaches and spring onion.

I want some fruit now. It's a scarce commodity in central Edinburgh.

I'm all about avocados at the moment.

Avocado on toast with lemon juice on top. Yum! I think I may have that tonight.

By the way, Ariadne was just reminding me earlier that avocado sandwiches are the favourite food of celebrity vegan Bryan Adams. Just you and Bryan, Stoatie, hangin' out ...

...suddenly the creamy green goodness of the avocado feels... tainted.

Actually, does this mean that if I kill Mr Adams I can steal all his avocados? He's a celeb, so he's probably got loads.

He got hit by a pellet gun last year while riding through London - maybe they were after his avocadoes? Maybe it was YOU, stoatie?

Um, Lincolnshire, I think. All sorts of cosmic truths manifested in fruit n’ veg form, that’s what Lincolnshire is famous for. See also: gravity.

...aaaand now I want some avocados, regardless of the Adams connection. Really shouldn’t read this thread when I’m hungry.

This is such a good thread to read just before going shopping, we're going to have amazing food for the rest of the week! Favourite veg is probably leeks -I might just be saying that because we made awesome tortillas with leeks as the main ingredient last night, and mushrooms (not technically a veg, but they're on the same aisle...) are a close second. Fruit -apples for just eating, lime for flavouring. And making the kitchen smell lush.

Wow, I just looked it up. I didn't know funghi didn't count as veg. I want some now, though.

Here is some NSFW fruit. Worth scrolling down for the full glory, someone's clearly gone to a lot of trouble over this. But DO NOT LET YR BOSS SEE YOU ON THIS SITE, it's just way too, er, fruity.

(Message edited to add more warnings due to a sudden attack of paranoia that I'm gonna loose someone their job and get their fine reputation in the community ruined by false allegations of fructophilia.)

Thanks Pooky, I did just that, fried the aubergines with a little bit of brie on top of each slice, and ate with tomatoes and spring onions and balsamic vinegar in a baguette. Lovely.

archraven - what do you suggest is the best way of cooking sprouts? I've had moderate success with stir-frying but they seem to burn quite easily and don't taste nice if they do. Boiling always reminds me of all the greens one didn't want to eat as a child. Steaming?

I love Kale. I steam it, then add toasted sesame seeds and apple cider vinegar to it. YUM! My other favourite veggie is plain ole raw celery....okay, and radishes, and rapini. Okay, I just really love vegtables.

I don't eat fruit as much. I am not big on sweet tasting food. I do love avocado, and it is a savoury fruit. I like starfruit for it's tartness. However, I adore big juicy strawberries or blueberries when I crave something sweet.

Stoatie, Bed, you get them from Sainsbury's! I liked them so much I made a plaster cast of mine instead of eating it.

The beautiful man was gutted. He wanted to eat fractals.

Dude, I was only slightly joking about Lincolnshire. I get mine from Boston market. Still caked in good, honest Lincolnshire dirt. And sometimes they need a wash too, boom boom.

I’m actually a bit surprised that you dudes haven’t seen these things before. They’re cheap, they're everywhere when they’re in season, ie late in the year: September, October, something like that. Beautiful Man will eat fractals yet.

I didn't know funghi didn't count as veg.

They don't. They're evil and wrong. They're fungus! They attach to the walls of your stomach and consume you from the inside. Filthy parasites.
