Jonah Hex - a little background advice

I'm a little curious about this upcoming Hex series. I've read Cheeks, the Wonder Toy's overview of Jonah's story, and there's a synopsis on Comics 101 as well, I think. Both are full of praise for the western aspects of the story, but say very little about this vaguely-alluded-to sequence where they send Hex into a post-apocalyptic future. I remember a terrible Justice League Europe annual where metamorpho got sent to the future and met up with hex in a two-page Kieth Giffen gag (Rex meets Hex, basically), but I know little more than that. Has anyone read these apocalyptic hex issues who would care to tell me when they happened/what issues, and what those stories were about?

It was called Hex. The issue I read was terrible. Apparently there were 17 more.

Oh, come on. How can a story called War with the XXggs! be anything but genius?

I remember Hex. I have some. What happened with it?
Didn't he come back to the old west? the vertigo series'...wasn't Jonah killed and stuffed and put on display or something?...
riders of the worm and such...

Haven't read the vertigo anes - too 'spensive when i find em secondhand (friggin' perfect binding...). From what I know, according to Cheeks, the Toy Wonder that happened before the vertigo series. Cheeks has nowt to say about HEX or anything after that, possibly cos the article came out before all that.

I read a couple when they first came out. I quite liked them. Jonah basically didn't bat an eye when he suddenly found himself wandering the lawless new frontier of the future, and they tried hard to combine sci-fi, DCU and western aspects to all the stories (one with a future Batman) but suffered slightly as the stories never really went anywhere.

I remember that little string of skin attached to his lips used to fascinate and terrify me as a child. I used to think that if he ever yelled or opened his mouth too wide it would snap, and that would be really gross.

Thanks, Benny. I'd seen those sites. They're pretty thin on the ground with info about the HEX series, tho. Anyone read them or own them and want to trade? I feel an obsession coming on...
