wtf?

Can you explain?

Because mine isn't fulfilling.

Here's what I know: made in 1992. Asian. Bad production values that made me almost not see what happens - I fastforwarded though. Ick! Saw a lil' of the gratuitous manhandling of a woman all tied up. Couldn't watch any more.

Does it get better?

Mmm, not really. An interesting note is that it's a true story - a Chinese restauranteur murdered the previous owner and his family and then ground them up and put them in the food.

The film has unbelieveably brutal and gruesome scenes of violence, uncomfortably mixed with broad, slmost slapstick humour involving the police investigation of the case.

I think it was a popular film at the time and won a few Hong Kong movie awards.

I didn't like it much, I thought the violence was sickening and the comedy weird and inappropriate.

I don't think I shall have to watch the whole movie in order to agree with you, Cameron; however, I shall attempt my best to man myself up.

How come you saw it in the first place? Is it notorious or something? Having otherwise sworn to myself to avoid as much spin as is possible, I nonetheless lack a bit of it in a case like this particular movie...

It is pretty notorious, yeah, and I saw it years ago when I was working as a clerk in an indie video store, which is where most of my film education comes from.

Hey - we should PM. Even though I didn't agree with ya on Spidey 2 (too unremarkable for me, given how much effort was invested in it) and, well, another movie, I'd still like to converse with you on movies that aren't to be gotten conventionally. I mean, if you're up to it.

Finished it at last.

Did you also find it to be influenced by Evil Dead 2 whenever focus shifted back to the killer, Cameron? There were certain sequences that seemed to stem directly from there, I thought. Only dead serious, like.

Maybe the biggest discrepancy in tone between the cop sequences and the killer sequences stem from a Chinese distrust of the authorities?
