Beeb article.

Thousands of counterfeit condoms may have made their way on to the UK market.

The Medicine and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency issued an alert after counterfeit batches were discovered in the Republic of Ireland.

The products are disguised in Durex packaging, but do not meet interational quality standards, and may not protect against pregnancy or diseases.

The fakes are labelled as either Durex Extra Safe, or Durex Fetherlite.

The Durex Extra Safe fakes come in packs of 12 and have the batch number 20602503.

Why on earth are there fake condoms around? Are people trying to make a quick buck by selling fake condoms? That would be simply despicable. If anyone gets HIV infected because of this, the perpetrators should be charged with murder.

Just another irresponsible black market, I suppose.

Why would anyone bother trying to fake condoms??? ...unless this is a secret vatican conspriacy!!!! Trying to make fake condoms so they can strike fear into the hearts of the sexually active!!! Or perhaps it is part of the Neocons 'new american century' where sex and birth control are both banned and the ability to have an orgasm is surgically removed at birth. Perhaps they both in league with each other.... and ALIENS! The pope is an UNDEAD ALIEN!

ok, I'll stop...

Hmmmm, maybe I'm paranoid, but perhaps the 'fakes' were in truth actual condoms that were poorly made by the folks at durex. Seems to me that claiming external foul play is better for PR than "Oops".

I imagine that fake condoms are cheap to make and sell very well indeed.

It's just one more reason to stick with the ( not so romantic perhaps, but economical, and environmentally sound ) recycled pack of Golden Wonder, isn't it ?
