I've been itching to start a thread about them for ages, because I haven't seen them get very much media coverage (that might change now, with the full-length album out) and have been wondering whether anyone else here likes them.

"Everybody should play louder and faster the closer they get to 40."

50 Foot Wave consists of Hersh, fellow Throwing Muse Bernard Georges and drummer Rob Ahlers. The band formed last year and announced their agenda as playing a hundred live shows a year and releasing an EP every nine months. The first, eponymous one was released last Spring, and they have now followed up with a full-length release, Golden Ocean, with eight new songs and three from the first EP.

I loved the EP, got Golden Ocean in the post yesterday and have been listening to it on repeat. I think I like it too much to write an objective review at the moment. It's energetic to the point of being manic, louder and angrier than Throwing Muses ever, and while its punk/grunge aesthetic isn't in any way groundbreaking, what it does it does well. One of the reasons I enjoyed the EP so much was that it only had six songs, too few to get tired of. The album, too, is nice and compact, only eleven songs, lasting less than forty minutes.

Has anyone heard it yet? Or seen them live maybe? What do you think?

Impulse bought today. I have always had a soft spot for Hersh, primarily because she soundtracked the period when I went completely linctus...

Yeah, I'm not quite sure whether I like this because it's any good or just because I unconditionally love everything K. Hersh does, says and stands for. I'm not usually 'a fan' of anything or anyone but for some reason she's an exception.

I'm still listening to the album repeatedly and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anybody who likes Throwing Muses (or Hersh's solo work but doesn't mind noisiness). (Anybody else, I would hesitate a little, for the reason mentioned above. Nobody I've played it to seems to share my enthusiasm.)
