Numbers

Are numbers important to Grant Morrison? We3, Fantastic Four 1234, cells of five in Invisibles, the five fingers of the Hand in Filth, seven soldiers (and JLA!). Magickal significance? Huh?

Possibly. He also used the numbers 17, 23, and 64 fairly often in Invisibles, and each has an esoteric meaning.

And X means 10.

23 is the great mystical number of all things (see any Robert Anton Wilson text), although I think very unseriously, it can be made to mean anything or be found anywhere. Grant has said, on occasion, that he is a fan of RAW's books.

The whole weapon X thing, was Grant the first writer to imply that weapon X meant weapon ten?

Yes.

I also love the fact that Grant's run on New X-Men was exactly 42 issues (once you include the annual). Surely it was unintentional, but I got a kick out of it.

1+7 = 8 ...squared = 64

7 seven soldiers plus (1+7) = 15

4 8 15 16 23 42

Didn't that anti-semetic dude we kicked off do whole posts with weird numerology? We told him to "get LOST". Ha!

I just realised something MIND-BLOWING: all Grant Morrison comics have numbers on the cover! Except for most of the graphic novels. And St Swithin's Day. Whaddaya think THAT means, eh?

Good try, but this post hasn't been around long enough for Barb-flavored sarcasm. We still have to bubble little idiocies first.

It's all in the rhythm, Flyboy. Now why don't you go elsewhere and hunt for racists.

What are you for?

Hm. That sounded less stupid while I was typing it.

Psh, like flyboy even counts these days.

Wolverine did used to be known as Agent 10 when he was in the CIA. It's not a new idea, really.

Obscure though. I'd no idea.

I always liked the fact that 2^3 + 3^2 = 17

Just one of those useful coincidences

For why, BillR?

I liked the fact his runs on both NXM and JLA were 41 issues long. I know there were fill-in arcs on the latter.

For shame, Dunc!

Go get yerself a Hitchhiker's Guide, stat.

Oh, thaaat.

Hmmrm. Harry Christmas is an odd name though, eh? He's the journo in Doom Patrol, yeah, but (iirc) the lead character in Johnathan Lethem's Fortress of Solitude uses the name as an alter ego.

What can it all mean?!?

it's the H - C thing from illuminatus ask me. dodgy folk have the initials hc for some 'deep' reason.

yawn - thing's buddy

alright gang!

anyway...

ho garden told me to tell haters guy above (angry guy; mean attitude) that not all grant morrison's comics have numbers on them. he said:

'some have zero on them (like seven soldiers for instance/example) and zero is not a number. If you have problems with this, it may be because you call your thumb a finger (when it's not). Also, tomato is not a vegetable. It is a fruit.'

Hey, don’t shoot the messenger!

Harry Christmas? Wasn't that the name of the liasing Detective in The Mrs Bradley Mysteries?

Is it the H - C thing that made the lovely Helena Carter put Bonham in her name?
