I'm going to visit a friend in London next Friday. What's London like this time of year? Winter gone yet? Snow on the ground? Rainy? What should I pack?

It was very nice today - sunny, bright, a little cold. Pack a nice warm coat with rain saving abilities, and you'll be fine. I think winter is leaving now.

Keep an eye on it.

I think winter is leaving now

I'm feeling your optimism but London was grey and foul for much of yesterday, and I think winter will still be here by the time Icon arrives next week.

Pack for cold weather, and pack your rain gear.

It's three-layer weather: a top, a jumper, an average coat. Or two layer weather: a top and a thick coat. Make sure your shoes are waterproof. If you get cold easily then a scarf might be a good idea.

Been mild this past week, but it was a bit colder tonight.

Natasha, back to you.

What should I pack ?

A hooded top, an anorak with a hood, and a baseball cap.

After nearly eight miserable, wretched years of Tony B, that seems to be what the people are wearing, often all at the same time. I suppose what you'd basically be saying is, 'I really don't have a chance, do I ?'

Otherwise, there's fawn chinos and a plum-coloured shirt with a healing crystal in the top pocket - it seems to amount to much the same kind of thing.

I'd recommend a warm coat, and lots of black.

In New York today, we had a snowstorm in the morning and a 55 -degree afternoon. The apocolypse starts here!

...and then tonight I had to pull over because the washer fluid froze on contact with my windshield.

This is why I decided to ask what the weather's like in London. Because New York has totally baffled my sense of 'appropriate seasonal temperature'.

I think the warmest it's been is around 8 or 9 degrees C, so still pretty cold - but not freezing. Last week's "mildness" was preceded by lots of snow and ice.

You'll be needing a warm coat.

Another fine day! Yep, pack a coat - it's sunny but cold. It rains for a short while at night, then the night sky is clear and thus it's colder. But it is beautiful winter weather at the moment.

Newsflash

Apparently the south is going to get up to around the 20 degree mark this weekend.

Global warming, anyone?

It's like snowing but not quite snow - IT'S ASH! RUN...

Ha ha. I watched that too. Was fun, as just read a book about E.E.'s, and mentioned Yellowstone.

Liked the man sat in hotel - opps I forgot the ash stuff, roof collapses on him.

Why is it that the two posts fortelling unseasonal warmth are doubled?

Something unnatural is at work here...

its overcast and slightly chilly at the moment

Is this really true? Is it really going to be hot this weekend, or is it all meteorological rumour?

Show me the money.

right now, admitedly, it is. But I'm still sticking to my opinion that today is the first day of spring. I'm possibly delusional, though.

No, I'm with you Bill. It was bloody warm earlier. Unseasonally warm.

It was so nice yesterday I went out and played footie all afternoon. Then I strolled westward for my karate and strolled home. It was sweet, although my feet are now killing me, the axe-wielding little maniacs.

It's so unseasonably balmy outside at the moment that not going to the pub for lunch would feel like an insult to God - I for one don't want to let the big guy down.

God, it's lovely today.

The sun is shining, the sky is blue and the breeze is just cool enough.

The Sussex Downs, which I can see through my window, look sooo tempting.

the storm is right over london at the moment - a huge crash of lightening coupled with a boom of thunder appears to have convinced many people that a terrorist stike was going on...
