I literally just heard about this before logging on here just now.
I hadn't listened to him for years but certainly in my youth, he introduced me to so much music.

'Tis a shame indeed.

likewise his radio 1 friday rock show introduced me to leads of music in the early 80s, tho not much of it very good, still fond memories of listening to Tank under the covers on a friday evening and that competition where you had to find out what linked three tunes. a real champion of music though.

rock on tommy!

Favourite Vance moment - he narrates a documentary about Evel Knievel, in which, after many accidents and broken bones, the Worst Stunt Driver Ever decides to retire. Cue perfect comic pause, and then the Nightfly's gravelly shriek "Pants! On! Fire!" as Knievel is shown back in the saddle mere weeks later. Hilarious...

Interesting that it doesn't bother me too much, as I thought he'd died years ago for some reason. One man's Peel is another's orange vinyl hotpants, I suppose. Still, it's a bit of a shame. Seeya, Tom.

This is really sad news. Vance was the voice of rock for young men stuck in rural areas, dreaming of pink hairspray and bullet belts.

An old boss of mine has friends in common with him and they all went to see AC/DC together. Apparently he swears ALL THE TIME. Imagine it; "I'll have a fucking Gin & Tonic you cunt" in the granite growl.

Favourite vance moment; The Top Ten Guitar heroes programme on a few years ago. When asked what it was that made a guitar hero, The Vance replied "When he plays, does it make your dick hard?"

Eeeew.
Hats off to the voice of rock.
