Kegboy's Concern re:The Total Tarot Thread

Thought I'd start a new topic for this as to preserve the continuity of The Magician arcana thread.

Busted!!!!!!! (Well, sorta')

Actually, I wanted to mention this so I'm glad you bring this up. The information that I am posting was compiled by me several years ago when I undertook an experiment where I spent twenty-two weeks learning and experiencing the major arcana--each week was one of the cards (...and the hilarious antics ensued).

The information is from my own notebook, and was culled from several sources. Books I was using at the time include:

The Tarot Workbook--Emily Peach
The Magician's Dictionary--E.E. Rehmus
The Book of Thoth--Aleister Crowley
Sexual Key to the Tarot--Theodor Laurence
By Jove!--Michael Macrone
It's Greek to Me--Michael Macrone
ANGELTECH--Antero Ali
The Black Arts--Richard Cavendish
The Mystical Qabalah--Dion Fortune
Zolar's Book of Ancient and Forbidden Wisdom--Zolar

There may have been a couple others, but I do not recall...

Some of the content of my notebook has been omitted for reasons of length of posts, and (projected and assumed) interest of other 'lithers. My meditations/reflections on the symbology of the Rider-Waite major arcana has also been excluded ('cause not everyone uses that deck).

If people prefer, I can skip all the info (which is mostly from the source material), and merely post "metaphysical musings," which are strictly my own thoughts, reflections, what have you. However, in the interest of a "total barbelith tarot system," I figured I would include the rest (so those of us who know very little about the tarot have some background about it, and from that they can form their own interpretations). As well, the info provides a backdrop for our interpretations (again, this seems like it would assist those who have little knowledge of the major arcana).

Well, what do y'all figure: do you want only my reflections, or should I continue to post the rest?!?

The Rest...

those of us who may "know" could always be reminded... AND those of us who "don't" would surelt benifit!!!

Damn right you were busted...and what a nice bust it is... Most definitly post the rest. Ive been working for a few years on my own tarot deck..and Ive yet to get the first card finished..Im using photography, computers and the like to create it..so its a case of getting the right people to pose and the right corespondences in the cards..its frustrating and exhuberating at the same time..so the more information I can gleam from anybody's postings the better. Im hoping to get it finished before I die of old age. Or to comeback and posses the body of some schmuck and make him/her finish it.

of the books you mentioned
Zolar's Book of Ancient and Forbidden Wisdom--Zolar
is the only one I own and Ive never met anyone else who owned it..cool

I quite like the Tarot, but the problem I have is in memorizing the meanings, especially in the Minor Arcana. I feel like such a dumbass having to riffle through the book to do a reading. What I would really like to see is some kind of mnemonic...

...Also, I'd just like to take a moment to express my annoyance about the very poor quality of DC's reissue of the Vertigo Tarot:

NUTSACK!

(ahem.) Okay, I'm done.

Godog...
What a great idea to take 22 weeks to discover the tarot.Your interpretations are very informative...please keep posting.
And if all goes well we will have a new deck for the millenium that we can call our own.
TOM:
Is it going to be a problem doing this? I mean by the end it will be 22 threads at least.I don't want to step on any toes here.
Can we publish the meanings as an article on the webzine Tom?

The original was great - I even bought an extra one just in case. The only problem was they were too large to shuffle comfortably.

The new reissue fixed that, but colors are washed out and faded-looking, and the cards are about *half* as thick. They're like freakin' business-card stock - you could fold origami with them. Bah!

Oh..that sucks. I thought the size of the first ones was great. I tooka bit of getting used to when shufflin gthem but now they're the only deck I use. I wish I had bought a extra one too.

They're the only ones I use too... McKean's my favorite artist.

Admittedly, my hands are kind of small. YMMV.
